Rigor at TJ compared to regular FCPS high Schools

Good luck from another TJ parent who’s child struggled through freshman (COVID year) and sophomore year. Personally I found the teachers and admin ridiculous. Like DC missed English quiz this week (excused absence). Teacher was pissed and make the makeup quiz impossible. Kids took 50% instead of trying the makeup.

Anyway, was told 2024 class average Weighted gpa is about 4.1. Look through the scattergrams and there is a webpage the kids know about that is from the previous class. It gives a student profile, gpa at time of application, ECs, whether they applied ED,EA or something else. It will also give you some insights. Make sure to apply to Alabama ($$ for SATs), Pitt, and George Mason.

Where is the source of this information. Judging from TJ destination of 2023, you need 4.4 to get into UVA and top schools. 4.1 seems too low

4.1 W is correct.

UVA admits are typically the top 25%, so their gpa’s are in the 4.4+ range

Blah blah blah. Posts like this imply that nothing has changed and that the school still suffers from a culture of cheating and competition rather than academic interest. But since this frequent poster also seems to have no real knowledge of the school, maybe the recent changes have helped somewhat? The impact of the pandemic currently seem to be the largest factor so it will be more years while things shake out before we'll see.

This was pretty rampant since they were selecting kids who had bought the test answers. There were so many who thought nothing of cheating back then.
