Hanging a TV over a fireplace - Where do the cords go? The cable box/DVR?

Anonymous
I'd like to hang our TV over our fireplace. It's currently on an ugly tv/media stand that I hate and I think looks terrible. We have a DVR, a lot of cords and speakers that are being held by the media center/media stand - they'll have to go somewhere.

So the question is, if we were to hang the TV over the fireplace, where do all of those things go? I know there must be a way to hide them, but I have no idea how. Also, who does this kind of work? Best buy? An electrician? Thank you in advance for advice.

Our cords are run through the wall and come out by the electrical outlet. The "stuff" has been in a media cabinet as well in a closet with a red eye.

You need an electrician to put an outlet behind the TV.

Your second issue is what to do with the box. You can put a table to the side of the fireplace and house them there and run the cords through the wall or you can get a TV mount with a shelf underneath.

Look up a company called mrtvmount.

Make sure you have a mantle or a small lip to direct heat away from under the tv.

Also make sure you are comfortable looking at a TV that high up. It can be uncomfortable for the neck. Do you have no other space for it, like if you got a nicer media table (or my favorite, a cool dresser or hutch)? Be sure you want a TV to be the centerpiece of that room.
