Pet Pigs

Anonymous
Does anyone own a pet pig? It's always been a dream of ours to own a little pig, but we've never had any experience.

I've heard that there is no such thing as a mini pig, but I've also seen tons of mini pigs.

Maybe this is just a pipe dream, but any experiences?

My friend had one that got so big it had to move out to the barn. Luckily they HAD a barn!

I have friend with one and he is getting huge. Way huger than she expected. After about 6 months, she called the breeder to ask about the size and if he will get even bigger (he will) and the breeder said to send him back and she will send a smaller one. wtf?!? The breeder is on the west coast, my friend is on the east coast and paid to fly the pig across the country in the first place. My friend doesn't want to send her pet back, she just wants him to be a managable size.
She has since learned that pigs eat and grow, eat and grow, kind of no limit on their ultimate size.
Wasn't there a thread on this a few months ago? With an interesting article about two guys who have a farm and take in pigs that people don't want anymore?
And the pig is less and less cute (he never was especially cute-but maybe to my friend he was) as he gets bigger and more mature-he is actually kind of nasty now.
Get a puppy.

Oh no! That isn't what I want to hear. I'm on here a lot and don't remember another pig thread.

We do have a much loved dog. We've just always been pig fans.

I went to an animal sanctuary last weekend that had lots of potbellied pigs that had been abandoned by their owners when they grew too unmanageable. My sister told me about a friend who once had one; she described it as a "really smart asshole." It got into mischief akin to a smart, ill behaved dog.

Also be aware that many communities don't allow pigs. I worked with a guy who was forced to give up his potbelly because the neighborhood filed a lawsuit.

I am the above poster. Forgot to mention that my friend also has a little dog who was there first. The pig is not nice to the dog (nips at her, takes her food-obviously) and the dog is extremely stressed by the pig.

Mmmm. Bacon. Pork chops. Sausage.

Seriously pigs are NOT nice, they will eat you in a heartbeat and their shit stinks something awful.

I hope you don't eat pork when you say you love pigs.

They get big and they get aggressive. Many many people get them and then offload them on a shelter or rescue group. Don't do it.
