Out of curiosity, how many of you decorate your whole house for a holiday like Halloween or Christmas, and how many of you focus only on the public areas or one or two main rooms?
Christmas I tend to end up with at least one little seasonal thing in each room, including bedrooms. I'm starting to decorate for autumn generally and tend to focus only on the kitchen, dining room, family room. I'm always in awe when I go into people's houses and they are perfectly, beautifully done for a holiday. |
| I tend to do more for Christmas because I've acquired more Christmas "stuff" over the years. Halloween, we do a few things because my son finds it fun, but I really don't want to build up a stash of that stuff. |
| I decorate the whole house for Christmas. For other holidays, I just do the main living areas. |
| Main living areas and half bath that guests use. I decorate for fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Spring and Summer (with some patriotic decorations thrown in at Memorial, Independence and Labor days). |
Same here. I am usually pretty streamlined with my decor. Over the holidays, it is crazy overdone. Love it! |
| I change decor by the season and typically change my centerpiece in the dining room, bring in different decorative items for the living room and re-do my fireplace mantle. Oh, I also put up seasonal, small accessories in my kitchen so, main living areas. |
| I just change out decorations in the "public" areas of the house. We try not to collect too much holiday stuff - each holiday gets 1 storage box except for Christmas which gets 2 boxes and the tree. |
|
I put a Halloween thing in our living room window as a sign to Trick or Treaters that this is a house that celebrates Halloween so they should ring the bell for candy.
We do a wreath on the front door for the month of December (I generally get it by the second week of Dec.). We do a small tree and I have a box of Christmas decorations and stockings for each person. The whole house does not throw up Christmas. |

The kids love to bring in leaves right now, so that's my Autumn. There is a carved pumpkin for Halloween. There is a door wreath and a tree for Christmas. We do not live in the Pottery Barn catalog, thank goodness. I have taken great pains to have a beautiful house to begin with, no need for overdressing. |
| We have a tree with lovely hand blown glass ornaments my mom had collected for me over the years. I dress up the mantle and put out a few nutcrackers. Generally it's just one room, and some lights out front. |
| I really don't like when people overdo the seasonal thing. It looks like they are trying too hard and have far too much time on their hands. |
|
I only decorate in the foyer and living areas.
