playroom furniture -- ikea or more expensive version?

Anonymous
I need to get an activity table & chairs, toy boxes, etc. for a playroom. My kids are little, so I'm hesitant to spend a lot of money on stuff that's going to get trashed. But, sometimes cheap ends up being more expensive in the long run. Should I go for Ikea stuff or spend a bit more?

Craigslist.

I will say, the IKEA furniture we have has held up fine. We got the $20 table and chairs, and I was actually impressed with how sturdy and stable it was after I assembled it. If you can't find what you want on craigslist, I would start with IKEA. They have some great children's stuff.

Remember, in less you are going to have multiple kids, those tables are only used a few years. Go Ikea (I am not a Ikea fan for most things). My kid has always preferred to sit at a big table with a booster vs. a little table at our house. Nothing has been trashed - some of that is parenting.

My whole playroom is Ikea, my son is almost 4, and it's holding up well. The $20 table has a leg that cracked during a move, but one nail and 10 seconds later I had it fixed.

Thanks, everyone! Ikea it is.

Pintrest has some great ideas for how to decorate an ikea playroom table with nice artwork, paint etc.

We've had our Ikea table for over 3 years now. DD isn't super hard on furniture, but it still looks great. DH and I sit in the chairs all the time and they're not wobbly. We have the Kritter table and chairs. They have a cheaper version that didn't seem sturdy enough to hold me or DH, so we went with their slightly nicer table. DD sits at it when she's doing activities or when she has a guest over during dinner time. Daily use. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Another vote for IKEA. Things we have are holding up just fine. The little kid years are fleeting. Also, the more expensive stuff isn't necessarily going to be all that great. I've never regretted not spending a lot of money on that stuff.
