Walking from Foggy Bottom to Georgetown?

Anonymous
How far is it from Foggy Bottom metro station to Georgetown? Is it feasible to walk with a preschooler in town (no stroller but scooter)?

Also, is there a elevator in this metro station (stroller for baby)?

I am thinking about going into Dc tomorrow just to walk around, window shopping, do some people watching and eat/drink. I would rather not drive though…

But is it a nice walk? Like, lots of things to see or just boring/ugly?

If I decide to take the bus can you pls give me the scoop on how that work in DC? I don't think I have ever taken a bus in this country to tell you the truth…. can I pay with cash? How much is it? Are children charged? Do I have to fold the stroller? It sounds nightmarish… I would rather take a cab if walking is not feasible.

i do it as an adult - would not do it with a stoller and a child on a scoter.

I would cab it... very short ride. You could take the 32/Friendship Hts bus to Georgetown from close to the FB station but you sound bus phobic, so easier to cab. I would not walk with a preschooler with a scooter because there's a lot of traffic there... a big traffic circle and lots of belligerent psychopath drivers. And the walk is not interesting until you get into Georgetown itself... just lots of big office buildings.

Thanks, I will cab it then. And fyi, I don't think I am bus phobic - I am originally from a city bigger than DC and took the bus everyday to school, work, shopping and everything else. I also have taken the bus in London with my preschooler and stroller (no baby though). But it was an umbrella stroller…

Now I have a young infant in town and a bigger/heavier stroller (uppababy cruz) and as I said, I have never taken the bus in this country (only once in suburbia land). I rather my first time is not under the circumstances above when Iam alone

Does FB metro station have an elevator btw?

They all have elevators.

The walk from Rosslyn is nicer. You walk a few blocks, cross Key Bridge, and then you're on Wisconsin.

Yes, but the traffic can be hairy there as well. Lots of crazy drivers not looking out for pedestrians, especially at the entrance to the bridge, where people are trying to get on 66, Rt 1, etc. If OP were alone, I'd do it, but not necessarily with a preschooler.

I am speechless at the idea of taking a cab from Foggy Bottom Metro to Georgetown. It's 9 blocks at most to M and Wisconsin, and it's a perfectly pleasant walk.

And if you can fold a stroller to get it into a cab, you can fold a stroller to get it into a bus. Yes, you can pay with cash. The fare for the Circulator is $1. Children under 5 are free.

Here is the rider information for the Circulator:

I would not walk from Rosslyn, especially with kids in tow.

I personally wouldn't walk from Roslyn as that bridge is windy and there are tons of cars and it's hard to walk side-by-side. That said, the trains are super fun (events in themselves for toddlers) and I'd imagine busses would be a close second.

The circulator bus allows you to keep your stroller unfolded (with baby inside)--at the driver's discretion and assuming the bus is not crowded. They also allow you to get on the bus FIRST and then unfold if necessary, so you aren't left with two kids, a stroller and only two hands on the sidewalk.
