- not a fed

I mean there's no news bc nothing is happening - there was another vote today on the same CR, it failed. Supposedly some bipartisan type talks happening but amongst lower ranked senators - not leadership.

It will be interesting to see whether Johnson will be willing to push whatever deal is reached through the house.

That’s bc potus is out of the picture forcing lower ranking member to hash this out. Eventually thune and Johnson will need his blessing.

I think this is the reason they want to drag this out. Terrify us and get more attrition.

A week into this Trump/Johnson shutdown, I realize that I did not realize how exhausted I am. Mentally. Physically. Not looking for sympathy.
Truly saddened by the assault on our democratic system of governance, imperfect as it is, and the enormity of the resulting harm.

I am too. I am angry at the left because their extreme policies have led the country to vote for Trump.

This is what happens when the left took the country too far left, where merely referring to another person by the wrong pronoun would be treated as a violent assault.

But that never happened. It's like being angry at your spouse because you dreamed about them cheating - it's entirely in your head.

That isn't entirely true. There was a push for compelled speech that started in 2020 with BLM and was being further extended with the expectation of using correct pronouns

This opinion piece isn’t about pronouns in email signatures. I’ve never put my pronouns in my email signature and it was never an issue. I’ve never heard any complaints about pronouns and email signatures until Trump issued a mandate about email signatures.

I guess concerns about free speech stopped in January.

My agency pressured employees to include their pronouns in email signatures. I included my pronouns because I was afraid about the potential consequences for not complying. We were also required to use gender neutral language and attend countless trainings to “educate” us about gender, equity, and other woke concepts. I complied, but I took a stand at the ballot box and voted for Trump. While I’m not entirely fond of Trump’s policies, I prefer him over the alternative.

Name the agency please! This should be public knowledge, my agency never put any pressure on employees to do this. Some had pronouns in their signatures, others didn’t. It’s literally never come up as an issue.

My agency didn't pressure us to put pronouns in our signature but I heard from someone who worked there that the Department of Labor did instruct their employees to do so.

There was never a Dept of Labor-wide directive to add pronouns to email signatures.

Imma bet we have moved to discussion of pronouns bc some MAGA upthread.

Go find your own thread. Pronouns have nothing to do with the shutdown.

LOL. I agree. I always suspected nouns and verbs.

So we are out at least through Tuesday now, right? I don’t see where they are even voting today, not that I expect the results would change on the same darn thing. Or are they working through the weekend?

I’ve only been furloughed since Wednesday (IRS) and this one feels way different than 2018/2019.

Oh, never mind, buried somewhere on CBS I see the senate has recessed until Tuesday. Since the news coverage of this shutdown doesn’t even make it above the fold on our “local” paper.

This sounds fake as a 3-dollar bill.

I read that with Trump going to the middle east there may not be a deal until he returns. I dont entirely get that because obviously he can work from over there but maybe the point is that he will be too busy with middle east stuff to focus on this until he returns.

You can guarantee that the government will not open until at least November, when the first of 2 special elections for house seats will take place. Interestingly, Tennessee 18th district was previously Democrat by a very large margin - and the previous 2 Democrat incumbents both died in 2024 and early 2025 while in office. There are 16 candidates for the seat.

There is also a special election to fill the seat representing Tennessee's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House scheduled December 2, 2025.

Let’s go TSA and ATCs! Flight attendants’ union - you’re not federal but you’re in this too. We need you to save the day.

my agency strongly encouraged adding pronouns to signatures, and i think supervisors were subject to more pressure as they were meant to lead by example.

as a bargaining-unit employee, i did not add my pronouns because i didn't feel that my coworkers were entitled to know what pronouns I would prefer, and I (rightly, as it turned out) felt it would make me less safe in a change of administration.

but gender neutral language and equal opportunity are always welcomed.

don't worry, you made clear your disdain for anyone who isn't a cis white male being viewed as a peer. we always knew you were going to vote for trump, it wasn't a stand against "he/him".
