I'm very thankful that people who do not wish to have children do not have them. I'd much rather not see children mistreated because they were not wanted. You're a horrible person for thinking that everyone should have children to meet some kind of societal norm.

Societies for thousands of years have been skeptical and wary of childless people. For very valid reasons.

Nope, only psychos like you. People do not have children for a million different reasons. You should learn how to mind your own business. I'm extremely weary of stupid people like you.

There are no million different reasons, there is always one reason: God/nature/higher power decided that these people do not need procreate their own type. The cycle will end with them. But poor idiots think it is their decision.

Hmmm this is an interesting one. As a younger woman (20s/early 30s) I always thought there was something a bit off about people who remained childless past the age of 40. going through my 30s and having my own children I have tried to reserve judgement and quash these feelings. But observing my own circle it seems the functional, successful ones all have kids and the ones with severe mental health issues or other life impediments have ended up childless.
I also wonder if it is a chicken and the egg thing- are the childless mentally unbalanced older women I know that ways because they never had kids? Or did they not have kids because of their own limitations?
Anyway something to ponder. I would never admit this in real life because it is very in PC. We're supposed to be in admiration of women who are childless and "free".

Strange take. Look at truly trailblazing woman and you’ll find most of them did not have children. All the women I look up to in my life that I have learned the most from (two bosses, one aunt, a family friend, and a college professor) did not have children. It’s nearly impossible to be successful on a really big scale and follow your actual dreams if you have children.

Such horseshit. For one, your career is never more important than raising a family. Two, tens of millions of professionally successful American women--women at the highest levels of medicine, business, academia and research, government and public service--were wise enough to find the time to have children.

Lady, you flatter yourself way too much. I can think of some people whose careers are infinitely more important than the children you brought into this world.

Yeah but let’s be real here … if you’re here s*** posting on DCUM, you don’t have one of those careers. 99.5% of people aren’t doing cutting edge cancer research or serving as Supreme Court justices.

Aww, you think your kids are so special. They're not. Most teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters, EMTs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, volunteers for animal shelters, etc. are going to contribute more to the world than your kids. Procreating doesn't mean anything. Cockroaches do it. Raising good children who will be contributing members to society is important but somehow I doubt you've managed to do that. Again, you flatter yourself way too much.

The original reply was about “truly trailblazing women,” not about people with regular careers. Like teachers and firefighters and such … most of whom have kids. LOL. And again - what “truly trailblazing women” are wasting time here? I’m not “trailblazing,” but perhaps you would know? What trailblazing career do you have any why are you on a mom/dad/parenting forum without kids? I’m so curious!

I don't know why you're telling me what I posted, but ok. I responded to the person who said a career is never more important than family. I said most kids aren't that great and many careers make much more of a difference than your parenting. But I could barely read your post so I'm not sure what else you're prattling on about. Try grown up sentences next time.

Then don't have kids.

I have kids. I think they're great. Do I think having them makes me a better person? No. Anyone who thinks their kids are their greatest accomplishment hasn't done much with their life.

Yeah, they might be your greatest source of joy in life, which is wonderful! But it’s not really an accomplishment to reproduce.

Have you tried to reproduce and failed?

Cockroaches reproduce too, you know. Do you applaud them for their achievement?

Some of the childlessness remarks are a bit broad. However: although the situation is a bit more normal now, there was a time within the last few years where most western European prime ministers / chancellors were childless and it showed. If childlessness is elective it is indicative of certain beliefs about the world, and those beliefs result in policy--often policy that is contrary to the welfare of families.

So, stop being judgy about something you know nothing about.

What is her invisible disability- laziness?

This post just reminded me that "stay at home wives" with no kids are on my list of top things I turn my nose up to.

This is an incredibly cruel comment. She has stargardts. A pregnancy would worsen her condition. She can’t even drive.
You’re an awful person.

You're right and I'm sorry.

Let's remove your daughter and other persons with disabilities from this.

I'll correct my original comment to say that " able bodied stay at home wives with no disabilities " are on my list of top things I turn my nose up to.

This is so dumb - the kids you sneer at are the pool from which the next generation of doctors nurses firefighters EMTS scientists etc are going to emerge, and they’re the ones who are going to save you/society in your old age. The values instilled in them by their parents will determine whether they find meaning in these callings or will just major in “business” and care only about grubbing all the money

I judge people who drive Cadillacs because the cars are not highly rated and are for showy ostentation. I dont judge Mercedes or BMW because they are solid, good quality.

I judge parents who announce how gifted their child is within 5 minutes of meeting them. This behavior is rampant in our area.

Smell does affect others. I don’t want to smell anyone’s BO nor their fragrance. It’s nasal rape.

Dark is my favorite, but I also love milk and sometimes white. I especially love nuts, fruit or toffee in the chocolate. And I love crispy or crunchy over smooth.

If it's chocolate that comes from a grocery or chain store, I have zero interest. It all just tastes so grainy.

We vacationed in CA near Sees Candy and it was pretty good.

I only have chocolate candy once a year or so if we travel somewhere that has a specialty chocolate shop.

It's also handy to be this kind of snob now when we have buy chocolate for Halloween and end up with extras. I have no temptation, and donate to the food pantry on Nov 1.

People who like gimmicky chocolate and make it their entire personality ➕ write endlessly about it.

That was actually a cute post, and one of the least snobby.

I judge your twee reliance on the ➕emoji.

I’m very particular about flatware. The weight, shape and size as well as the sharpness and width of the tines on the forks. The depth of the spoons, shape of butter knife blade, and handles (no overly ornate design) even the finish. I have been all my life, no idea why.

Public k-12. I can immediately tell your kids are public schoolers. I detest everything about public schools, from the wannabe politico board members, to scamming job-hopping do-nothing overpaid administrators, to lazy teachers, to the sports obsession and behavior cover-ups (drugs, fights, sexual assault).

Dirty cars, inside or out. It's fine if you can't afford a new car, but the least you could do is get a car wash, vacuum the interior, try not to eat and drink in it, to keep the interior cleaner?
