FCC Chair Brendan Carr says Sinclair has "every right" to demand that Jimmy Kimmel to donate to Turning Point USA |
the 51st for local DC On national stuff, I subscribe to specific writers, most of whom left the Post or NY Times. |
Apple News is just scraping the AP wire via local newspapers. They are not a news organization with worldwide bureaus. And...Apple isn't paying for it, so you are basically stealing news and not compensating the actual journalists. |
Jimmy can take his show to PBS. Oh, wait. |
Subscribe to Apple News (which has a ton of newspapers/media) or independent media: Sign up for 1440 19th Street news. So many independent journalists are on IG for free and have paid Substacks. This isn't a comprehensive list -- it doesn't include a lot of women like Heather Richardson, Katie Couric, Jessica Yellen, and on. https://substack.com/top/news |
the SCOTUS NRA v. Vullo case gives Kimmel a pretty good roadmap for a lawsuit against the government and ABC. And this was a unanimous SCOTUS decision. |
When Trump talks about sexual assault, MAGA says it’s “just locker room talk”. When he makes violent insinuations towards others, you say”he’s just joking”.
When a comedian jokes about the president, NAGA wants to burn the constitution and gets then fired. When a 22 year old makes a tasteless joke on social media, they doxx them. I can’t wait for you all to be shamed back under your rock. You are the worst of humanity. |
Disney sucks! |
Apple News is garbage. Many of the independent “journalists” either (a) don’t adhere to basic journalistic standards, (b) don’t have sufficient staff/resources to cover the issues, and/or (c) don’t have editorial staff/structures in place to ensure proper coverage. You’re recommending apples when we really need oranges. |
Why are you posting fake news on a discussion about real, independent journalism. Apple does pay licensing fees. If journalists don't like it, or the oppression, they may leave. "The free version of Apple News has been a source of audience attention for news publishers since it launched in 2015. But while many publishers have come to the conclusion that traffic has less business value than they once thought, they’re still desperate for revenue. Executives at companies including Condé Nast, Penske Media, Vox, Hearst, and Time all told Semafor that Apple News+ has come to represent a substantial stream of direct revenue. A spokesperson for Time said that Apple News has become “one of our most important partners and delivers 7-figures of revenue for TIME annually,” adding that the publication garnered 5 million unique visitors from Apple News last month. The revenue and audience numbers have been similar at major Condé Nast publications, including Wired and Vanity Fair. As significant as the partnership has been for the Daily Beast, it’s been even bigger for its larger corporate sister Dotdash Meredith, which runs the portfolio of magazines purchased by Daily Beast parent company IAC in 2021." https://www.semafor.com/article/05/19/2024/as-clicks-dry-up-for-news-sites-could-apples-news-app-be-a-lifeline Here's another one for you. https://www.amediaoperator.com/newsletter/can-pubs-really-depend-on-apple-news/#:~:text=Apple%20News%2B%20charges%20users%20%2412.99,from%20premium%20magazines%20and%20newspapers%E2%80%A6&text=The%20company%20licenses%20articles%20from,audiences%20spend%20on%20each%20piece. That's right Jim Acosta and Katie Couric no longer adhere to journalistic standards. That's your right to hate Apple News but they literally license news from tons of newspapers...so you don't have to pay for them all. Look, I think newspapers should be free, but we live in a capitalistic society, so the only news that would be free would be propaganda. Look at the Wapo stats I posted. Is that independent now that they don't have enough subscribers to generate the revenue they need to keep it afloat? That means that Bezos is putting his $$ in to keep it afloat. I don't really consider that independent news with high journalistic standards. |
I don’t hate Apple News. I just don’t think it’s very good. And Jim Acosta and Katie Couric are not exactly compelling examples to the contrary. Not to mention the algorithm. As for your second point, check out WaPo’s ethics and standards page. Or, if that’s not sufficient for you, check out the website right now and ask yourself a question: how many of those articles does Bezos likely agree with? My answer is very few. Which rather proves the point. |
I left Hulu when they started airing Trump
Propaganda this summer.. Where can I watch tv without lining the pockets of fascism? |
|
That proves nothing if the damage is done. I can't check it out because I don't have a subscription and I don't care to because I can read tons of other papers on Apple News. We disagree, it's fine. Because I definitely don't think Bezos is more principled than Couric and Acosta. |
