Tilden MS

Tilden + high FARMS ES from DCC ---> Woodward.

How bad Woodward HS will be?

It will be bad! They will probably pick the worst possible outcome from the worst boundary choices too to make it even worse.

Well discussion is about Tilden and situation within MCPS.

There are range of schools in MCPS. Tilden seems to be really bad.

During the many years that I taught there, the students and parents never faced consequences for what they did.

Many times after we switched the Google Suite, I could see parents completing an assignment while the student sat right in front of me, no Chromebook, working on a paper copy.

I would think that these issues can't be only for Tilden. Others schools in the area must have similar students/parents. If these issues exist only for Tilden then it says something about community in Old Farm/Luxmanor area.

How could see the parent completing the assignment on the Google doc when the kid was not on their Chromebook? That sounds awful but just trying to understand

The difference is entitlement and the sense that the parent and student are above consequences.

If you open a shared Google Doc, you can see edits live. Someone is signed into the student’s account and typing, but it clearly isn’t the student. Logical conclusion is that it is the parent, though it could be a tutor.

It seems to indicate a very poor admin. Second possibility, population in Old Farm/Luxmanor area is vastly different from nearby areas. I live far away so don't have any direct knowledge.

If that's the case, how come Farmland ES is a decent ES?

Farmland is an excellent elementary school and the Old Farm community where it is located is a great place to raise a family. Tilden has wonderful teachers but as stated earlier, there are some behavior issues. Not necessarily violent - just some disruptive kids and the school doesn't necessarily handle it well. I don't know if it is any worse than in other MCPS middle schools. That said, my child loves it at Tilden.

We’ve all seen the projects that come in that were clearly done by the parent or the student received a significant amount of help. Obviously there’s really nothing stopping parents from doing HW assignments for their kids as well, but doing the work for their students via Google docs during the school day seems way way beyond the pale. Is this common??? Sorry to sound so naive!

It was more common before, but has largely been superseded by AI.

Yes, but AI language is not hard to spot.

We don't have so many people complaining and long thread about other MS, so it seems Tilden does have an outsized problem.

If the bold part is true then why no action has been taken to solve this issue. A good admin can solve it.

Spotting isn’t the problem.

The problem is that MCPS doesn’t allow academic consequences for cheating.
