Recovery Time for Tonsils/Ademoids Removal

Anonymous
My four-year old is having her tonsils and adenoids removed next week. In your experience, how was the recovery for your child? How long was it before he/she went back to daycare or school? Thanks!

OP here - I meant adenoids

Our 5-y.o. had it pretty rough for a full week - meds every 6 hours on the dot, very quick to cry, uncharacteristically difficult. Then about another full week before he was completely back to normal. This was exactly what our surgeon had said to expect, so we were prepared. I've heard stories of kids being okay after just a couple of days, though that was not our experience.

surgery was a great success, so very worth it. Good luck.

This was our experience with our 4 year old son. I would plan on 2 weeks. The first week was definitely rough.

Anyone know what recovery is like for adenoids only? Thanks!

My DD had adenoids removed when she was 2. She had them removed in the morning and rested a little that afternoon. By evening she was running around the house like normal.

+1. Each of our kids had adenoids removed at age 2, along with tubes inserted. DD was up and running that evening and had a nasally voice for one week. DS was grumpy procedure day and the next but then was fine. He did not have the nasally voice.
