anyone else have this? It is excruciating and then it's gone. This is the 3rd time in about 5 months since it has happened.

This happened to me. Terrible. It ended up being diagnoses as TMJ pain.

Yes, but for me I think it's linked to a cold sore outbreak.

I've had this in my Eustachian tube (sort of behind my jaw). OWOWOWOWOWOW. It was like being shot.

OP here. I know you aren't supposed to use Q-tips in your ears but I did this morning and then later today - bam. It really is excruciating. Like an ice pick for a few seconds. SCARY.

Did you see The Wrath of Kahn?

I get this once in a while, so randomly. It can actually make me wince, cringe, and even say "ow" it hurts so badly. I have no idea what it could be, but it's got to be nerve related.

OP here. It's exactly like you described 16:46!

I had this and it was a pinched nerve in my neck.

I have occasional TMJ symptoms and will have some ear pain. TMJ can cause pain all the way down your back, headaches, sharp pain in you jaw/ear, and is aggravated map by cold/sinus infection.
If you tend to grind your teeth at night or clench your jaw, it's probably related. Ibuprofen helps.

Silly to use qtips. It's not in your outer ear. You can't access the problem.

they are indeed "ice pick headaches" I get them too. I have a crazy high pain threshold, and they have been nearly doubled over.
