Bombay Gaylord

Did something happen to Bombay Gaylord in Silver Spring? I order takeout from there regularly. Saturday evening I tried to place an order by phone but no one answered. I drove by later and saw that it was closed. Anyone have any info?

It would be very sad if they closed. I ordered instead from Ghar-E-Kabab, and it was expensive, and honestly not that great.

Bombay gaylord is undergoing renovation and will re-open in a few months. There is a sign posted on the door that says that. We used to love GEK but of late the wait times and general flavor of the food has gone down. They use organic farm fresh (their own farm) ingredients

Whew! Glad they're not closing for good.

That was the thing with the food from GEK, everything seemed very high quality, but there didn't seem to be much flavor, especially in the tandoori salmon which was super disappointing.

Thanks for the info!

Until they open again, try Mandalay on Bonifant Street. Not Indian, but tasty Burmese food. Gram fritters, noodle dishes, salmon and ginger salad are terrific. Mandalay beer on tap is good too.

Second the recommendation for Mandalay. It's amazing. I gave up on Bombay Gaylord, though. The last time I ordered from there I asked for spicy and they doused the dish in Tabasco. Ghar e kebab is hit or miss. Used to get take out from there all the time, but haven't lately because, as mentioned, pretty pricey for mediocre food.

I thought the sign said they'd reopen 7/20. We walked over tonight and the workers were still there at 7:30 pm.

They are still working on it. In the meantime, we have ordered from the place in White Oak in the little shopping plaza there (the name escapes me). We do GEK too but I agree they are too expensive.
