After taking my kids sledding today, it's clear that my short leather boots won't do. Also, where can I find waterproof pants that will not make me look like the Michelin man? |
Wellies (available just about anywhere), REI for the pants. |
Love Wellies! Try TJ Maxx, Marshalls for cheap ones or if you have $ to spend, try JCrew. |
What about these? http://www.amazon.com/Womens-Colorful-Polka-Rubber-Boots/dp/B000AR9SI8 |
Thanks! I was thinking of something insulated, but I think warm socks and wellies will do just as well. |
P.S. Do "soft shell" pants keep you dry through an hour of sitting on snowy sleds, making snow angels, and so on? Or do I need something completely waterproof? (I am so not a winter sports person.) Thanks! |
I am a fan of the good ol classic Hunter wellies. They will last you a long time. But hey, the bean boots are still cool too in my opinion. |
for snow, my midwest friends swear by lands end boots. Not all that "cute" but does it matter? well priced and well made and most important --keep you dry! |
Lands End boots...I have them on now....but then again..i'm the poster who was matronly with the Talbots' clothes...lol |
Problem with wellies and llbeans are that rubber is cold, even with the linings they sell. I just got a pair of sheepskin lined clog boots that are KILLER! Waterproof and so warm I no longer wear socks. |
Cute? L.L. Bean's Maine hunting shoes aren't cute, but they're terrific. Athleta has fantastic but pricey ski pants that will keep you warm and dry, as well as stylish. |
I have Wellies but absolutely won't wear them in the winter. THere is not one ounce of insulation - even wool socks won't help.

I just bought the Hunter Wellie socks to go in my Wellies and it was the best $35 I spent. I used them to clear off the snow and ice the other night and my feet were very toasty. |
I'm about to buy a pair of Wellies for rain, but my husband comes home every night in wintry weather with stories of women slipping on slush/ice in their Wellies, so I'm not sure I'd trust them for snow play. I think they're intended to keep feet dry, not to provide traction on snow. |
