| I have a thin upper body, narrow hips, a flat rear, and meaty drumstick looking thighs. I walk at least 5 miles every single day. Why aren't my legs in better shape. Help? |
| I can't help OP, but sympathize. I'll be following this thread myself. |
| Lift heavy weights: squats, deadlifts, Hungarian split squats. Kettlebell swings. You need to build the muscle mass in your lower body; walking will not do this. Women think this will make them bulky and won't. Trust me, I was thin and flat-butted too, and always described my thighs as drumsticks. Weightlifting has changed my body. |
Np here. I do all of these things at least 3-5 times per week and I still do not see improvement. The only thing I can think is that I am too old to change that part of my body. My stomach and arms are great...it is just my butt and thighs. I think it must be the way I am built. |
I agree. Check out Pauline Nordin's "Butt Bible" workout |
| I tried everything and I mean everything. I got lipo! |
+1000. For the PP that's lifting heavy weights 3 to 5 times a week and not seeing results. ...maybe you need to change up your routine? I like the workouts in Oxygen and Muscle & Fitness for Her, but maybe a trainer could help? |
| Would steep inclines on the treadmill work? |
| I had thunderthighs until I had lipo |

I'm with you OP. I lift three times a week and I lift heavy. My arms are amazing. I have a six pack (after a number of kids) and I am really skinny (size 00). Except my legs! I think they a re pretty muscly (I can lunge/ squat etc with serious weight). YOu just can't see the muscle under the flab which my body chooses to store on my thighs. I don't want to lose any more weight off my upper body but I guess there is no way to force my body to burn fat from my legs and butt.
I think it is probably age too. |

Are you able to run? Running might sculpt your legs more than walking. Also, agree with posters suggesting more lower leg exercises, to try to carve out some definition. But your legs may always be bigger, and as long as you are healthy, that's ok. It's not a health risk like carrying weight in the abdomen area.
I'm lean up top and bigger in the legs. That's just how I'm built. Buying jeans can be tough, but otherwise I've just grown to appreciate and accept my legs. They have run two marathons, carry me thorugh speedwork and hill runs with a stroller, can handle an intense power yoga class and help me stand-up paddleboard and hike with my kid. |
| Over the course of three years or so I've gained at least two inches on my butt by lifting weights so it can be done. I was not blessed with a butt so I had to work at it, just like any other muscle on the body it will grow with the right training and diet. |
But (and I am not the OP) what if the issues isn't lack of muscle - it certainly isn't for me. My legs are strong, really strong. But the muscle is just covered by a layer of fat so you can't see it. Fat that I don't have anywhere else on my body. |
NP here: I'm the same way. It's just where my body stores fat. For my thighs to look really good, my face looks like Skeletor. It is what it is. Oh, and when I lift heavy, I absolutely bulk up. Some women do. What keeps me leanest is running and power yoga, but even then, I can't change where my body likes to keep the fat. |

Can someone provide a pic of someone thin as being described above with "meaty" thighs? Cause I'm not buying it. I bet your thighs look fine.
(Drumstick looking? What does this even mean?) |
