The Cherry Blossom Ten Miler...

Anonymous
So I signed up for the Cherry Blossom ten miler. Anyone else? This is my first time and have never run 10 miles before (only a 10K) so it should be fun (note the sarcasm). The training program starts Monday so that means 5:00 am wake ups.

It is a really fun race - and a great way to stay motivated to run over the winter.

I am registered as well and hoping that my 9MO starts to sleep through the night so that I can get some decent runs in.

I think they changed the route since I last ran it 2 years ago, but I'm sure it still very scenic. It's a good race though. I actually set a personal best record for me. I ran the Reston 10 Miler for a test-run (my first official 10 miler) which really helped. Before that, I had limited myself to only 5 & 10Ks.

No matter how you finish -it's still a rewarding race!

Good luck.

I'm registered, too. I needed something to motivate me to run through the winter. Ran 6 miles today. MUCH easier/better to train WITH someone if you can.

Looking forward to the race. I hear it is fun. This is my first time. Not going for any sort of record. Just want to finish.

It's a great race in general, and a terrific race to move from a 10k to a 10-miler. Great course - long but not super challenging as far as courses go. Plus the springtime and crowds make it really fun. Congrats for gettting a slot! You'll do great - just be sure to get a few long runs in (8-11 miles) to make sure you are comfortable and confident.

lucky you. i got shut out for the first time ever, despite getting to work early to register and trying to register for nearly 3 hours. i was pretty ticked. Still bitter, actually, as it's the only local ten-miler in the spring and i don't have the time to train for a spring half-marathon.

it's a good race. scenic. nice crowd, decent spectator support, good volunteer support. weather is often a factor, given the early april date - about half the years i've run it, the weather's been chilly or rainy or a bit snowy. the roads are narrow at the beginning, so early on you'll feel pretty claustrophobic, but it thins out a lot by the end of mile 2, or should.

Not true, PP. The GW Parkway 10- miler is 3 wks later. Pretty run and prob better weather. Check it out as I don't think it is full yet.

There is the Reston 10 miler too (but that is usually before the Cherry Blossom one).
