Anyone else have a love hate relationship with coffee?

Love: taste, smell, alertness, productivity, great concentration, wakes me up, gives me a morning high even if I was exhausted before I drank it, keeps me regular (I know TMI)

Hate: increase in anxiety, makes me neurotic, difficulty falling asleep (even if I only drink it first thing in the morning), too much coffee with too much sleep deprivation can make me a loony tune, coffee withdrawal headache if I don't have it every day

I wean myself off from time and time and I am much more mellow. I sleep better but I feel down when my ability to get work done and take care of things at home suffers. If I go off it for months the neuroticness almost disappears, but then the high I get when I start drinking it again is amazing.

No, I won't drink decaf because that to me is like nonalcoholic beer. It might taste good, but what's the point? Half-caf just leads me on the road back to needing coffee.I know there are worse addictions, but dam you coffee!

I'm with you, OP. Live for my morning cup-the warmth, the way it slowly wakes me up, but I experience what you descrbe as well!

My love for coffee runs so deep that we have our own song.

Pure love. Unless I'm pregnant, in which case it's insta-heartburn and not worth the trouble.

I used to feel like OP but after having 2 kids and weaning myself off completely for the first one - I realize that I function much better with a little caffeine. Now the only thing that bothers me is the coffee breath which is easily fixable with a breath mint.

I love coffee.

OP, I completely agree. But I have recently decided to never give up coffee again. Those two cups in the morning give meaning to my day, consequences be damned.

Just love. I used to drink it after dinner in restaurants (before kids or when I don't think) and then I pee all night long. Like every hour.

I just gave it up, and found some great decaf at the farmer's market. I loved it a lot, but now don't miss it at all.

I've been on that same roller coaster off and on for years. Every time I give it up I swear that's it, but I always come back. At this point I've given up trying to give it up. Life is just too hectic to try to get through the day without it.

I like coffee but I agree that I can't drink very much or any after 10 a.m. or it keeps me awake...I do not understand people who drink it all day or have a big huge cup in the evening...How are some people immune to being kept up all night???!

I also agree it makes me more anxious but I can't give it up. I limit myself to two cups first thing in the a.m.
