It came out two days ago, I think. Here's the link:

I was a little surprised there weren't any NMSs this year from BCC. Also thought it was telling that nearly half of the NMSs of MD are from Montgomery County.

I thought this was announced in September?

The National Merit semifinalists were announced in September. THis is the much shorter list of kids being awarded the $2500 scholarship.

It's too bad the announcement is made AFTER college decisions are made and merit aid has been doled out. The only difference between winning and being a finalist is $2500.

The kids from DCs school on the list are all going to top ivies so it didn't hamper their college applications. I suspect these kids are all accomplished enough that their applications weren't dependent on winning.

90 percent of semi finalists, which are named before college application, become finalists. Dollars or not, the colleges give a lot of credit and take bragging rights for nmsf wether semi, final, or scholarship. They are all pretty much the same.

Too funny! "are all going to top ivies" - there is a list of where they go here (hint: not all "top" ivies)

Well for one of the Ws, they are going to Cambridge, Princeton and Penn.

There may be more than one person going to one of those schools and I may or may not have left off where one or two is/are going to protect privacy.

I was referring to the ones from DCs school, not all of them. And it was in response to a poster who indicated that it might have been better if these accolades were decided before college decisions were made. My point was that the kids I know did well even without the NMS qualification. Unlike NMSF, to get on this final list is a lot more than test scores so these are all very accomplished kids.
