Calico Critters - yea or nay?

Anonymous
They seem awfully cute, and my daughter is much more into playing with animals rather than dolls, but they seem so darn expensive. My daughter is turning four soon and I'd love opinions on whether it's worth it to start "investing" in these sets at this age. Would love to know if your kids loved or ignored them. Thanks!

I was so excited to find a Calico Critters Ferris wheel at Home Goods before Christmas. I also scored a set of animals there (this set uses the baby kind) and got three others from a toy store. It was my four year old DD's favorite gift and still plays with it all the time.

Buy the little house that comes furnished and with one bunny. It is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Calico-Critter-Cozy-Cottage-Starter/dp/B005KBU83S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1397842407&sr=8-2&keywords=calico+critters+house
See how it goes. Don't buy any more houses or furniture, and keep an eye out for sales/coupons for any other critters, and if she wants more, you'll be ready.

Target sells knock-off Calico Critters (Li'l Woodzeez). They're less expensive but very cute. Perhaps you could mix and match. My kids don't seem to mind.

Same here. I wish my kids would have been more into them!

AC Moore sells them so you can buy a set from there with a coupon.

My 3 yr old got one set for her birthday and LOVES it. I went to purchase more and was surprised at the price, so I haven't added to the collection yet. But maybe I should after reading this thread.

My DD loves them. She is three. I have to hide the choking hazard accessories from her brother who is 13 months. That stuff is tiny!
