Pruned roses this weekend, freezing tonight

Anonymous
Apparently I need to actually pay attention to the weather. Do I need to cover my roses tonight? I am new to this.

No. They survived our winter fine so far. The only things you should worry about are any warm-weather annuals if you planted them already.

I usually prune roses in late Feb.--you're supposed to do it before they leaf out, but I've done it at this stage before, and they've been fine.

What about peonies? Mine are way up (12") and starting to show leaves - not just the red starter buds. I am worried about them but can't figure out how to protect them - putting something over them will snap the stems, I'd think.

OP here. Thanks! We just moved into the house, so i didn't get to prune before then. I haven't planted anythign else. So we should be good. Thank you for your help.
