UMD joining the B1G?

UMD is joining the B1G 10 in July . UMD is already the premier STEM school in the region. Is membership in the CIC going to take it to the next level? My DS is there now in computer science and he said he's now allowed to transfer or take any course at a B1G 10 school. Michigan, northwestern, Illinois ,Indiana , Purdue ,penn state, ohio state , Wisconsin etc..
Apparently UMD is being inundated by students from the other schools wanting to access the DC area and amazed at UMD having FDA,NASA,NSA,national archives, DOA, NOAA, National Physics Institute, international foreign language institute on campus. I know my DS is excited about the football games against Ohio state, Michigan state , penn state and Michigan next year.

This is a big deal for UMD and the DC area in general.

It's a big deal. Congrats to Kevin Plank for bringing Notre Dame into the Underarmour family!!
Sergi Brin UMD alum and Google founder just taped a UMD pride video with the Henson family (muppets) and Larry David for the football games. Can't wait!

Left out Illinois .. An excellent stem institution.

UMD is already elite in computer science, physics, math and engineering. The CIC just gives more power.

I live right by UMD and am happy for them, but College Park is such a dump.

^^^ I mean with regards to the town. The actual university campus is nice, but there us nothing directly around the school of interest.

It's getting a lot better. The whole corridor has 10 huge projects starting this year including a 4 star marriott , whole foods, movie theaters . CP is a natural winner. CP has a lower violent crime rate than Charlottesville , chapel hill , Boston ,Syracuse ,Pittsburg , Durham ,Raleigh , Winston Salem , Atlanta , coral gables , Tallahassee .

Only Clemson and Blacksburg have lower violent crime and it's not by much. We are spoiled living in the richest area and don't realize how horrendous places like Durham are.

Lol.. Nothing of interest? How bout the nations Capitol ?? My DS goes there and his frat buddies jump on the subway right by the school to Nats , Caps games .. Eat downtown or hang in CP down in old town . At UNC all there is of interest is a Denny's and 2 bojangles . CP is right on DCs door and a 15-30 min jaunt to Bethesda and Annapolis . My son LOVES it ... But I'm sad he never comes home

I actually love College Park. I went to UMD in the 80's and even though it's close , it seems far away because it is so different than Montgomery County where I was raised. It's warmer, the flowers bloom earlier and it actually feels kind of southern in PG county. To this day I love going to games and leaving behind my job and worries to dissapear into the original ledos and look at the old ACC and dematha football helmets. Rip off your suit , put on a t shirt , put your hat on backwards watch the terps, get ledos and burn a couch!!'

Stop by town hall and shoot pool on the way out!

Maryland should be in the ACC. Another bonehead realignment driven by college football money and nothing else. Now the all the small sports have a travel schedule that looks like men's basketball. Stupid.
