No one can say the Maret community is boring. That being said, this conversation is getting a little repetitive and descending into Whittle-gate like so many Maret threads have. World will keep turning, Maret will keep schooling, parents will keep rage-posting. |
Well, I guess if you are looking for high quality analysis, DCUM is not the place where you will find it. |
| They announced the committee…any thoughts? |
Yeah… y’all are embarrassing. |
| Yeah. But not a fired unemployable family of crooks at least |
I have never seen so much hand-waving. My two cents of advice: we could ask the board to disclose objective criteria (for example, years of experience, prestige of the last position, or salary range) BEFORE the recruitment process takes place. This would reduce the discretion of board members who are not capable of making strategic decisions. |

I wholeheartedly concur with PP. This hand-picked selection committee should spell out their recruitment criteria so we can compare the final selection to what they say they are looking for.
By the way, is this selection committee comprised of the same folks who selected Mr B? I seriously hope not. 😳 |
| Not the same players as last committee but still lackeys. I assume it’s too much to ask for some different perspective amongst the members. |
There were In the previous selection committee: Sue Bosland, Rick Juneja, and Leigh Comas. No full overlap but some overlap. |
What makes you think they are lackeys? I agree that the whole process seems very murky. Why couldn’t parents volunteer to be on the selection committee? |
In non-profit schools, the board members are the “de facto” owners. They want to choose a HoS of their liking. |
This. If there is fire to the smoke in this thread, the search committee and consultants will need to take stock of what issues need to be addressed to get more leadership stability. Given the short tenure of the current HoS, one would expect they take the need to better understand the challenges and needs of the school seriously. |

In my opinion the current HOS took a risk accepting the position in the first place as it is very challenging to follow a long term HOS, especially one who ruled close to the vest for decades like MJT .
One only has to look at what happened to that sacrificial lamb who took over at Beauvoir after PC- run out of town in three years too, I believe. Honestly, next to the long term sports for the middle aged in Washington of leaking to the press and opening special investigations on the POTUS, inserting the long knife effectively in the control of a Big 3 Private is possibly tied for 2nd place. Of course, it is ALL about the children and the JOY of learning. The elephant in the room is maybe recruiting a new HOS for an institution that lacks athletic facilities ( read exploitable assets for land management companies ), has a very small student population ( read development pool from which to build one's endowment ) isn't that easy.... In these situations it is better to promote from within- if you still can, that is. |
|
There is no way to promote from within. There is no one left who is remotely qualified besides the head of the lower school, but I worry that she might be too kind for the role and I also wouldn’t wish that level of torment on her.
I used to think that MT’s heavy handed, autocratic rule was a problem, but maybe that was what it took to keep things from devolving into total chaos. |
