| Plenty of schools in VISAA to beat and compete with. VISAA is basically every private school in Virginia and has two divisions. But sad that SSSAS used to be a top contender in VISAA Div 1, and are now likely middle of the road VISAA Div 2. |
| All of these schools could resolve their lack of athletic numbers in 2 years. Reduce the number of non-academic related salary and actively reach out and allow athletic facility use by not trying to turn a profit. |
You mean like the IMG model |
Exactly. So the question for parents is at $55 k/year or at least $220 k / 4 year hs term, what are you getting out of it from a lax perspective? |
|
Are you saying that solid lax recruits are choosing Landon over sssas because it’s cheaper ? That is not the reason. Please. And it’s not cheaper anyway - both are about 55k.
And, most kids at sssas couldn’t handle the rigor of St. Albans and they know that. |
Close to 40% of the school's staff have nothing to do with education. The administration is bloated with assistants to the assistant in every manner. Landon and GP are not different in this way either, and it's been eroding those campuses too. Next, stop running the facilities like a profit center. There is plenty of time during the day for the AD to reach out to volleyball, lacrosse, basketball, baseball/softball... organizations for them to use the campus. Be creative and schools will grab some of those participants and plenty of participants who can afford the tuition if they think the school is worth it. Until Landon and ML had a big fight, ML used their fields a ton. NL runs summer camps there under very friendly terms. DCE is at Bullis and now GP. NL is at STA. ML is now at EHS. I will bet it pays dividends for their lacrosse team. |
| Honest question... is SSSAS struggling to attract good students? |
Maybe it’s a broader change of focus for the school because girls lax is right behind them. They have one non senior that gets significant playing time and she was a transfer. Outside of that class they have made no effort to develop players. Maybe the coach is leaving and the school sees it as an opportune time to make a shift. It’s strange because both the head of the entire school and the head of the upper schools’ kids benefitted from the lacrosse program. |
|
Saint Stephen’s and Episcopal have never been known for their academics.
They serve a much market as Alexandria public schools are horrendous and the only other private in their neck where they compete against is Bishop Ireton. It’s a shame how much the boys lax program has dropped post covid as they were extremely competitive for well over a decade and sent some of their players to some very select universities. The headmaster decided to go woke about 6 years ago and it’s finally catching up with them. |
yuck. go woke go broke. |
Prominent example of a bloated administration. https://www.sssas.org/saints-life/our-inclusive-community |
| Way too much emphasis and $ spent. https://www.episcopalhighschool.org/community-and-equity |
| Guess your dumb theory only applies to boys lax? SSSAS girls went 22-5 last year and their '26 class alone has 10 D1 commits, including 3 Ivies. Coaching matters. Feeder programs matter. Talent matters. Girls lacrosse is growing and boys is shrinking at all levels in DC metro area. Give the new SSSAS boys coach some time and stop trying to blame DEI for your snowflake's lack of success. |
Yeah the title thread is Boys 2027 lax commits. |
And this is the way out, unless the woke culture has become so engrained in those schools. These schools probably view any male sports as toxic and they want to slide to much lower competition. |
