x1 billion

Republicans & bigots: Leave our kids and schools alone.

No parent of kids in school talks like this, insulting people so rudely.

No parent of kids in school pushes lies and misinformation as the PPs have. Go back to your Republican troll farm.

It's clear that the PPs have zero idea what's actually happening in the classrooms and are just trying to stir up their base.

Why are you offended by an opt in model?

So far, your only arguments are name calling, cursing, yelling about trump supporters and republicans, making political slurs.

You have offered no rational, concrete or adult responses or arguments against following the governor's guidance that schools shall switch to an opt in model.

What are your arguments against opt in?

Can you present them in a rational, adult manner without slurs and insults?

DP. It'd be an administrative nightmare to have families opt-in for every little thing. Nothing would get gone.

The very few people (Republicans, bigots, liars) who don't want their kids to take these surveys can just opt-out. If the kids aren't comfortable, they can opt-out.

It’s ugly and almost Orwellian to suggest that everyone who takes issue with, or has questions about, the intrusive information-gathering (or the rest of FCPS’s social and political agenda) must be a cave dweller.

There seems to be a consistent refrain of you either get with the progressive program or you can just leave. And judging from the flat/declining enrollment numbers lots of people are taking FCPS up on the suggestion and cutting ties with FCPS.

You have no idea what Orwellian means or why FCPS has seen declining numbers and it isn't just "oh, FCPS sucks," which is part of the reasoning, but not the entire story.
"Of those who departed, nearly 42 percent opted for a public school elsewhere in Virginia or the United States. Roughly 8 percent chose a school “outside the United States,” while 7 percent switched to a private or parochial school and 2 percent opted for home schooling. Other, much smaller numbers of students left for reasons including “financial hardship,” “employment,” “family” and “achievement problems.”"

Those stats have always been there. But, why are people not moving in as they always have?

Although, i think 7% choosing private is kind of high. I don't recall but a couple of my kids classmates doing that--and it was at the middle and high school level. 7% is not an insignificant number.

It is difficult to have an adult conversation with other FCPS when every other post is a politics troll posting single line insults

Only responding to the obvious trolls who don't even have kids in FCPS and are just here to push their politics.

Every time you post lies and misinformation you are outing yourself as an external agitator.

No more difficult than to get a permission slip for a field trip. It would not be an administrative nightmare--unless you are the administrator who wants to leave parents out.

So a false analogy. Outstanding. One class at a time re: field trips does not equal an entire school system of 180K kids , or a school of 900 simultaneously. This is why admins don't like opt ins--not because they want to leave you and your bloated importance and misconceptions out of anything.

I believe PSATs are opt in. So are the one free senior SAT.

It is a simple process to manage opt ins.

Nope and nope. It's just as simple to opt out. This is you trying to control a situation you already have control over. Get a grip.

If you actually have kids and are actually concerned about this, then opt your kids out. Or if you kid doesn't want to answer, they don't have to.

You have full power to not do it.

Parents are not "left out" - they can opt-out at any point.

Back to the main topic, hopefully without the trolling.

Why won't FCPS adopt at least part of the new huidan e regarding survey opt in?

Changing to opt in is a very popular policy with parents of students, and one that requires minimal effort from FCPS.

Challenge the bathroom thing if they feel they must, but implement this very reasonable and very popular guidance.

The only reason I can see for FCPS to defy this part of the guidance regarding surveys is politics, which is very unfair to students and parents.

Clearly the people in favor of switching to opt in are parents of FCPS students.

No, just the PPs who obviously don't have kids in FCPS and are trying to stir the pot.

And the private schools go way deeper into SEL so good luck there.

The ones who have no idea what is on the screeners or what is involved in SEL lessons?

No.

Or they can leave it as opt-out because that works and they get a better response rate.

Parents and students can opt-out at any point - it's completely fair.

If you read through the posts, you would clewrly see that the parents who posted about the county survey and its intrusive questions clearly stated those quesrions were from the county survey given to 8th, 10th and 12th.

Saying otherwise is just presenting wrong information.

How many opt outs do you think are sent each year to the average fcps family with a kid in high school, a kid in middle school and a kid in elementary school?

It is far more than just one SEL survey.

I'm happy to bump the earlier posts that claimed the more mature questions were in the SEL screener.

How many of those would most parents actually opt-out of though?

Most parents don't want to opt-out so opting out is less work for parents overall.

That isn’t the screener.

PP is spreading misinformation.

Republicans are so vile.

Right out of the playbook. Repeat enough times and people will believe it. I’m surprised the posts aren’t made in all caps.

So none of the questions in the Youth survey the PP pasted on this thread are being asked? Or are they? Those questions are insane and if they are being asked I would like to opt my kids out of them. Is it SEL, FLE or what? What subject do I need to opt out to prevent my kids from having to answer such personal questions AT SCHOOL.

You’re deflecting.
We have people believing that their rising third grader is going to be asked the questions that are listed in this thread. People are coming right out and emphatically stating that these are in the SEL Screener, which is a lie. People think their ES children are being asked about their sexual identity, which is false. This is not addressed in K-6. Not in the SEL Screener, not in the Youth Survey and not in FLE.
