Looking at this list quickly there is a Rohatyn (huge NY name) and the founder of Smart Water. The daughters of the plastic surgeon who did Hilary Clinton’s face lift. And Stephanopolous for the DC gang. I know Chris Rock’s daughters went/go there too. |
that's a 23 list.

DC moms will be asking: why so many nyc moms here? |
Ik. This post spans 2 yrs. |
Already asked and answered 2 pages ago. |
SJP's twins go to a non-TT school that has been mentioned in the past few pages, along with a few other celeb kids. I believe Suri went to Avenues then LaGuardia, though not sure of that. I think Seinfeld's kids went to Riverdale and/or Fieldston and all went to Duke. Duke has a super active program for rich/famous parents. Barron was at Columbia Prep until moving to DC. They kept him in NYC to finish out the year when Trump was elected in 2016 and they had armed guards all over the place. NYC privates are full of old money and/or hedge fund money. Which is a different stratosphere than DC big law partner rich. But there are a surprising number of very, very upper middle class kids at these schools (i.e. $750k HHI). Which is still a ton of money. But it is nothing compared to these other families, particularly if they are paying $70k a year for private for multiple kids. |
How connected are these schools to admissions offices at top colleges? Comparing this to how some top NYC pre-schools can broker their kids into TT privates. Does this exist at all? |
It exists, but not to the extent it used to. I won't name the school, but the HOS at DC's TT NYC private told DH that sometimes he will make a phone call and go to bat for kids who may need a little extra boost to get into their schools of choice. |
Part of me wants to know where the celebrity kids go. But most of me feels nasty even asking. |
That happens at our non DMV (not NYC) private. It’s the sign of a good private school if your head of school is willing to make a phone call for the kid, especially after a deferral or waitlist. |
Our non-TT NYC private got a kid off a top 10 WL. Counselor literally told my dc, “just a minute, I have to make this call to get this person in” and the next day kid was in. |
sounds like a good school! |
More typically, these TT schools just hire associate director of admission from various T10 colleges. Everything flows from there. |
This is a form of yield protection. The kid being on the WL is qualified for the top 10, now the school just wants commitment. And they have to do it this way (through school counselor) to get the kid withdraw from all other schools. |
