I know I should ask this of my insurance company instead, but it is much easier to post on DCUM than it is getting in touch with a human being from Aetna.
So, if you (or your DH) had a vasectomy, was it covered by insurance? If not, how much did you have to pay? |
| Yes, for our Aetna, but call them - policies vary. We paid about $400 out of pocket with our coverage. Cheaper than a year's copay on bcp, at least. |
| yes, we have BC/BS. |
| Yes… but be careful. Ours wasn't going to cover it because they do cover the surgery in a doctor's office. They don't cover the surgery in a out-patient surgery center. The doctor's office we used did it in their own office - but they were calling it an outpatient surgery center, and I spent a bit of time on the phone with both the doctor's office and the insurance figuring out out, but when submitted the right way, it was covered. Almost cost $400 - instead cost just the office visit co-pay. You really do want to call ahead to the insurance. We did, and were glad we weren't surprised. |

Most insurance covers a vasectomy but not its reversal. As the PP said, check on the location and also ask if there is an associated facility fee. If the doc does the surgery at a location owned by another entity, you'll probably get a facility fee that may add to your out of pocket.
Find out who will do it, where they will do it, and then call your insurance company. |
| We have CareFirst Blue Choice (Fed) and they covered DH's in Feb. We just had ~$100 out of pocket from various copays. |
| yes Cigna. 300 total out of pocket. |
| Aetna PPO. it was in an out-patient surgery center. We paid $15. Best freaking $15 ever. |

"Covered" but subject to a hefty deductible.
It depends on your own policy/benefits plans (dictated by the employer). |
