Duvet vs Comforter

all the duvets i've ever had are lumpy and wrinkly looking on the bed. have i just had bad luck? anyone love their duvets?

by the way, i like the ease and non-lumpy look of a comforter but none of the brands i like, john robshaw or serena & lily, have nice ones.

I've tried to love duvets, but I can't. Switched over to a comforter (west elm) a couple years ago and love it.

A duvet is just a cover. If you're looking at down comforters, make sure you get something that has squares or baffle boxes so the down stays in place, e.g. read the styles tab:

No, a duvet isn't a cover. There's a duvet and there is a duvet cover.

You also need to make sure that the duvet is tied or snapped to the interior corners of the cover so that it doesn't shift around. It took me a long time to discover that and totally solved the lumpiness problem.

I have a duvet in my guest room and spent way too much time ironing it. Next will definitely be a comforter. They're effortless

You have to shake it out when you make the bed. Hold both the duvet and the cover along one edge, and shake until it falls into place.

The beauty of duvet covers is that they are easy to wash.

I only wash my comforter once per year. I have sheets, then quilt then comforter on my beds. We don't touch the comforter or put it near our faces and it's never dirty. In the summer it's folded at the end of the bed.

I do the duvet and cover for our bed since we have a dog who gets up on our bed periodically. I wash the cover every two weeks when the house cleaners come and they can put the duvet back inside the clean cover. I found the king size duvet cover easier to wash at home than a king comforter.

I sew Velcro or buttons inside my duvet cover at the corners and half way on each side (8 points) and attach the duvet to the cover so it doesn't shift around.

Wow - I had to ditch our duvet covers after we got our dog because I found it impossible to get those covers back on the king-size duvets. All hail, comforter! Actually ours is more of a thin quilt, with 1-2 more layers of knit blankets depending on the temperature.
