Baby turning after 30 weeks

Anonymous
My baby is currently breach. My doctor said that he still has time to turn. But, to be honest, the thought of this baby turning now is hard to imagine -- it would be like a bowling ball rotating inside of me! Obviously I'd like him to turn to avoid complications, but I'd love to hear from other moms whose babies turned later in their pregnancy. Did it hurt? Could you tell when it was happening?

Mine went turned sometime between 30 and 31 weeks and honestly, I can't say that I felt it. The doctor just noted at my appointment yesterday that the baby's head was now low and the baby was no longer breach. Of course, this baby moves constanty and it is always uncomfy when it does, so perhaps I just missed the turn in the slew of other movement!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I felt it when my baby flipped around 29 weeks. The movement felt very different than any other times that she moved in there - but of course I don't know for sure if that indeed was the time that she flipped. Babies can (and do) flip up until the head (or butt lol) engages in the pelvis. If you are concerned, you can check out spinningbabies.com for some advice on exercises to get the baby in the best position. Good luck!

Babies can and do turn head down all the way up until delivery. That is why it is a good choice to delay a scheduled c/section for breech as long as possible. I personally know of babies who have flipped at 39, 40 and 41 weeks. There are also a few providers (one OB and a number of homebirth midwives) in the DC Metro area who know how to safely deliver your breech baby vaginally.

Mine turned sometime after or around 30 weeks and I never noticed anything other than the standard movement I'd been feeling all along.

Mine was still turning until about 33/34 weeks. She would be head up for a few days and then head down for a few.

Mine turned around 32/33 weeks. It's amazing the acrobatics they can do in there!

I'm only 29 weeks, but baby turned from head-down to breech this weekend. Unlike some posters, I definitely felt it -- basically, it felt exactly like 3 pounds of baby doing a somersault inside of me! Anyway, at yesterday's OB appointment they noted the new position, but they also said that babies can and do change positions all the way up to the end.

I was prenant with twins and so had US and fetal monitoring for heart beats every week - they were often amazed at the fact that one of the twins literally turned or nearly turned almost weekly!. Literally they would make a drawing after the test for fetal heart beats in hopes that it would not take so long the next week and they could find and discern the two heart beats quickly.....no such luck - almost every week she would change and more than once was from breach to normal presentation - and this was after 30 weeks.

My baby turned somewhere between 34 and 35 weeks. An ultrasound at 32 weeks showed she was breech. The doctor thought she was still breech at 34 weeks. Ultrasound at 35 weeks to check the position showed her to be head down. I was pleasantly surprised - I didn't feel her flip. I second the recommendation for spinningbabies.com. I can't guarantee that the positions described on there did the trick, but at least you feel like your helping the baby flip!

My baby turned just before 36 weeks. At 30 weeks, my midwife thought the baby had finally turned vertex but wasn't 100 percent certain. At 32 weeks, the baby was definitely breech. I was sent home with a handout on exercises, similar to the information on spinningbabies.com, that could encourage the baby to flip. Despite spending time with my pelvis higher than my shoulders, having my husband talk basically at my crotch, etc., the baby was still breech at 34 weeks. An ultrasound showed she was footling breech. I went to an acupuncturist who did a treatment in the office and then sent me home with moxa sticks to continue treatment at home. (Basically applying heat from charcoal-like sticks to special points on your pinky toe.) We did that twice a day for a week, and then I went back to the acupuncturist's office for another treatment. This was at about 35 1/2 weeks. The baby still seemed to be breech, and my midwives scheduled an ultrasound to double check and were planning to refer me to an OB for an external version. But two days later, at 36 weeks exactly, when I went for the ultrasound, the baby was vertex. I can't say for sure that the acupuncture was what did it, although there are some studies that show it increases the chance babies will turn.

BTW, I didn't feel the baby turn at all. It might have happened while I was asleep.
