Tell me about White Oak MS

I've heard mixed reviews on White Oak. I would love to hear the perspective of parents whose kids have attended White Oak.

All of the parents I know whose kids attended WOMS have been very happy, me included. It was a great experience for my son. Do you have specific questions?

We are moving to SS and have been researching homes and schools. From our research, the Stonegate/Naples Manor neighborhoods seem nice and would work for DW and my commute.

We've used Great Schools for much of our research on schools. On Great Schools, White Oak is rated a 5. I know that this doesn't tell the whole story, so I wanted to get perspectives of parents who have experience with the school.

PP, I appreciate your feedback and welcome input from others. Also, if you could elaborate on what you/your son liked about WOMS, that would be helpful. Thanks.

Good teachers were hired these past few years.
Struggling students have a lot of support.

OP here...thanks for the feedback...what support do G/T students get at WOMS? Do any WOMS get accepted into HS magnet programs or the Richard Montgomery IB program?

My DC went to White Oak and currently attends an NEC high school; of DC's friend group from White Oak, a couple went on to Blair Math and Science Magnet, one went to Richard Montgomery IB Magnet, and about an even number seemed to go onto Springbrook or Blake with only a handful going onto to Paint Branch (although that may be changing because it seems that more White Oakers will be heading to Paint Branch next year school year than in previous ones).

Overall, I found White Oak to be a fabulous school. For the most part, the administrators, teachers, and support staff seemed to genuinely care about the students, and worked hard to foster a welcoming environment for parents and a nurturing one for students, particularly in terms of providing academic support. I really got the sense that the teachers were very dedicated to pushing all children to reach their full potential, including providing just as many enrichment opportunities for the A student as remedial or re-teaching opportunities for underperforming students. Again, I'm talking about the overall experience; out of the nearly two dozen White Oak teachers DC had, off the top of my head, I can only recall one teacher who was a complete dud but 8 teachers who were amazing.
