What do you do for music for a party where people are coming for dinner and then hanging out for a while afterwards? I'm having 12 people for dinner and would like some fun or light but not too obtrusive background music, and I want to be able to set it up and then not have to deal with it until the end of the night. Looking to hear how other people manage their music. If you use Pandora or Spotify, can you give me suggestions for specific "stations"?
Thanks! |
On spotify, you can browse playlists based on mood. There is one called. "Songs for sunsets" I really like. |
Harry Connick Jr. |
Seed a pandora station with Lyle Lovett, Nora Jones, Ray Charles, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Or get Beats Audio. |
We usually do jazz |
You can do a search for dinner music or dinner party on Spotify. I like looking through people's playlists to see what they have. There's one called "An Indie Dinner Party" that I really like, but it really depends on what type of music you like. There's also another one called "Dinner for Two" that I really like. |
We turn on the "Smooth Jazz" radio channel, if we want something a bit more upbeat, there is something called either Uptempo or Upbeat Smooth Jazz. Depends on the crowd attending. We use "Lounge Music" or "Chillout Channel" when we're chilling out with tea/coffee with younger crowd, "Dance Radio" when in party mood ![]() |

Bossa Nova is really good for this. Most people don't speak Portuguese, so it's hard to sing along. But there's a "fun-ness" to the music that will make you tap your foot possibly, but not compel you to dance. |
Strongly agree with this. Gilberto and Getz are good. I'm sure there are Pandora stations for this but I don't know what they are as I don't use Pandora. |
Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Temp
M Ward Leonard Cohen Van Morrisson Pink Martini Coralie Clement |
Drum n bass! |
If you want it to be fun, absolutely go for some swing music!! Or any of the rat pack - Frank Sinatra is always a hit, maybe the album "Live from the Sands." Ella Fitzgerald, Sing Sing Sing (Benny Goodman), Billie Holiday, Luis Armstrong.
