First, I am not tech savvy when it comes to this topic. I have continued to use my VCR because it served my purpose but I got a taste of my son's DVR and love it. However, I just can't justify the expense of monthly rental. We have FIOS.
Are there other high end recording devices out there that don't require monthly rental? |
Well, what are you watching? You might do better with just a Netflix and/or Amazon Prime account. |
Also FIOS on demand should have most episodes saved of whatever you are watching. Should be free as long as you have the subscription. |
If you have a technical friend, they can take a normal Windows PC, then get a device called HD Homerun Prime that takes a cable card that you get from FIOS. This will replace your FIOS box for that TV. You plug the cable line into the HD Homerun Prime box, and connect that to the FIOS internet router. And hook the Windows PC to the TV.
Long story short, the PC is the DVR and has all the normal functions. I've used it for years and love it. No extra cost per month. |
You can just buy a TiVo. It will make any generic DVR seem like a pinto. |
Not OP, but thank you! I've wondered specifically how to use my PC for this. |
