Non-believers of men who cook

Is she your brother's wife or your wife's sister?

OP, are you bi or gay?

Maybe she's more impressed with the waffles than anything else? Waffles seem mysterious and it's impressive so see them made at home if you have never done it yourself. Personally I would not be surprised to see a DH making waffles because it is kind of a dude thing to hang out with a hot waffle iron, sort of like grilling

This reminds me to get a waffle maker! We had a waffle tradition in our family and would love to resurrect it.

I don't get it... What's the issue?

I think you're just being weird, OP. Probably she was just surprised because you were making them from scratch instead of using a mix and not because you are male vs. female.

OP you get ruffled too easily. Also, overuse of emoticons for me to take you seriously.

OP does seem a bit dramatic and emotional especially, wait for it... for a guy.

I have no idea. Lots of guys cook. Waffles are easy.

Just go on with your waffle-making self. So her husband (or father) have never made waffles and her surprise came out of her mouth in a weird way. Let it go.

My DH is the cook between the two of us. He makes dinner every night, and breakfast most mornings.

You know, PPs may be right that she was impressed with the waffles, not the fact that you are a guy making something.

Waffles are fun and conjure up childhood memories. I was putting myself in her shoes. To come around a corner and see waffles brings out an exclamation in me--ooo waffles!

Waffles are…well they are…magical. It's true. Think about it. There is nothing negative about waffles, and they generate only very positive, happy feelings that there is a special treat in store for us; aren't we the lucky ones!

Humblebrag fail.

I would take the "wow-real waffles" comment to mean that she is impressed that you- or anyone- is taking the time to make them from scratch vs. popping eggos in the toaster or whipping up some shake n pour nonsense.

Does your DW's sister have a DH? If so, does he cook?

It could be:

1) Waffles bring out exclamations in general (esp. if SIL doesn't get waffles often)

2) DW's DH doesn't cook and then your theory is correct

If my DH didn't do 95% of the cooking we'd be mighty hungry. But I do make the waffles in our family. People love waffles, maybe because it's not an everyday breakfast?

Because there are some very old school people still around. You never saw Pa Ingalls cooking, did you?

I grew up with a dad who made dinner for the family. I married a man who makes family dinners.
