I'm hoping to get more fish into our diet but am nervous about the small bones being a choking hazard or our kids (aged 1 and 3). Could people recommend fish that generally have fewer bones. And, conversely, types of fish to avoid as they are more boney?
Thanks! |
I always get tilapia or flounder filets from the seafood counter at the grocery store and I have yet to encounter bones. |
Tilapia |
I have good luck with salmon from Sam's. |
It is pretty rare to find bones in most filets these days, sometimes Salmon has them but pretty rare. Tilapia safe bet to be sure, catfish, pollack, you might find bones in halibut steaks but at $20 lb not likely feeding that to kinds anyway. |
tilapia fillets are amazing |
DS (and DH too) LOVE haddock. It's nice and mild. I just bake it at 350 for 25 mins with lots of olive oil, little sea salt and ground pepper. Serve it with garlic/olive oil cous cous or mashd potatoes and peas. |
Whole Foods will de-bone salmon filet - you just have to ask them. |
I rarely find bones in cod. I always find them in sea bass. |
I really dislike tilapia. Cod (large bones, you can pick them out). Personally, catfish is always a big hit-- we oven-fy it (breaded but baked). |
