So I couldn't read what Edith's letter said. Guess I need glasses. I am assuming it said she was pregnant?
Anonymous
I need to know too! I made the mistake of reading from the beginning!
Anonymous
Yes. She's pregnant. First trimester. I had to rewind and freeze the frame.

Ok! I did some quick googling and found this episode synopsis along with a copy of the letter.

Thanks PP. I wonder if she will get an abortion like the sister did in Upstairs Downstairs.

I was thinking the same thing. My guess is yes, she will.

Are we supposed to understand what the relationship is between Thomas and the new maid?

No. He has some dirt on her, but we don't know what it is.

Poor Edith.

What are these sinister rumblings coming from America? Does it mean Shirley McLain is going to come live with them or something?

Why does Cora always discuss secret matters in front of her maid? Especially a new maid? I liked how she helped Anna and Bates at the restaurant.

Jimmy the Gigolo makes a move on Ivy and she's taken by surprise? Hoo boy.

Rose, Rose, Rose. Among many other things, you are just being tacky.

The new guy sparring with Mary isn't so charismatic. Dogmatism isn't sexy but I suppose it means she will be attracted by his independence, despite his bad hair.

Thomas needs more to do. His sneaky, manipulative talents are being wasted!

Rose was not any tackier, if you will tonight than any other night. She is hot to trot and a what some would call a wild child and others horny.

And, i wonder if it will kill or mame her? Where in the hell is her missing man?

The rumblings from America has Cora's family involved in the Teapot Dome scandal. A couple of oil men bribed secretary of Interior Fall (who Cora mentions) for oil leases in Wyoming and California. Fall want to jail, and one of the oil men was convicted, as well.

If the plot follows Upstairs/Downstairs, Edith is due for an illegal, botched abortion. I hope that's not why the handsome doctor is getting airtime. I hope the doctor is getting airtime because of Mrs. Crawley.

Speaking of Mrs. Crawley, I do love her character but Violet was exactly right in saying "she runs on indignation." Interesting point about Mrs. Crawley.

I think U/D also had financial fallout from some American crisis or scandal (or Canadian scandal or railway or something)

I was surprised Mary left Rose with the singer after seeing them kissing. I thought she would have said, "Rose, come up with me…" and invented some excuse. Not because of the race issue, but because Rose is unattended, messing around with a man. I know the norms of the day are changing but Rose is still younger than Mary or Edith, and also Mary knows all too well what happens when one is left alone, messing around with a man...

My guess is that he'll only be missing long enough to force some abortion/bastard baby drama.

Maybe that's why she did it?
