Last year, DCPS sent an email when lottery results were in. It went to the email address provided during registration. I assume for the new process, a similar thing will happen on March 31. The site says that people who provided an email will receive their results via email and the results can also be seen on the website.
For schools that don't participate in the common lottery, it depends. Last year some schools sent postcards. Some schools emailed. Creative Minds called people who got in through the lottery, as I believe Inspired Teaching did. When we got into another charter off the waitlist, they called my cell phone and then followed up with an email.
Don't worry, you won't miss the lottery.
