They planned on only 4 for the year....could start eating into summer vacay ![]() |
Nah. This has happened before. It has never eaten into the summer. No worries. |
A few extra days at the end of the year isn't the end of the world. They'll live. |
I'd rather give up some of spring break. |
They are not out of snow days yet, there are 5 snow days built into the year. Today was snow day 4.

There will be several more of these puny snow storms and the county will close schools as usual. Whether it's 5 or 15 they will do the usual and appeal to the state and a waiver will be granted. |
I guess PP didn't read the info she sent. The link shows that at 5 days the school year gets extended..
If schools are closed... The school year will be extended by... 5 days one day to June 13, 2014 Though I don't really think that will happen. |
A few years back when MCPS and other MD school systems used up all their snow days, I believe the MD Sec'y of Education granted a waiver so they didn't have to add on days at the end of the year. |
OP is correct - this was written 2 days ago, so before yesterday's snow day was scheduled and used. DC has already stated that they are extending the school year. PG and MoCo are at their max. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/in-washington-area-school-days-to-be-added-to-academic-calendar-after-snow-closings/2014/01/21/3f6aad44-82c0-11e3-9dd4-e7278db80d86_story.html |
Bring on the snow days. My DC is a senior and graduation day is fixed. So adding days at the end of the year makes no difference to DC. |
Our kids need more time in school, not less. They better not appeal to get out of them |
How refreshing to find someone here thinking only of themselves. |
This. I've had kids in MCPS for 16 years, and I think maybe once in that time they have extended the school year, more than 10 years ago. They will likely ask for and be granted a waiver. Why all the panic over going an extra day, anyway? What's one more day? |
It's the first time in 18 years we haven't worried about snow days. I'm enjoying it. Plenty of other stuff to worry about of course. |
In the past*, MoCo has gotten waivers for days where a disaster declaration has been made..blizzard/hurricaine. I don't think we have had any of those this year. I wonder if it will still be granted.
*We have been with MoCo 8 years so I can't speak to what happened before then, |
