For kids taking HS classes in MS (like language or Algebra), how are grades counted?

Does the grade factor into the high school GPA, or just appear on the transcript?

DD and I are having a disagreement.

Both...I don't even believe there is an indicator for colleges that shows it was taken when the child was as young as 11. I think kids should have a choice to get the credit and have the grade show or not.

I was told it counts. Our principal brought this up as a problem with the over-acceleration that was going on pre-2.0.

Yes, the grade goes on the transcript and a notation shows that it was taken before high school. That grade does count in the high school overall GPA.

Be very careful about these classes. If you feel that the teacher did a poor job (or there was no teacher for a good part of the year - but a string of subs) - then you are better off not taking the semester exams. This way there is no record of this class and your DC can retake it in HS and actually learn the material.

We had this issue with our child with HS Geometry and I still regret that I did not pull out my child. DC ended with an A but there was massive knowledge gaps.

Always remember to question what the agenda of the school is. Most of the times their goals are different from those of your child.
