What product to use on your hair before blowdrying?

Anonymous
I just got my hair cut and blow dried at a salon. The stylist used an expensive looking product in my hair before she blew it dry. She said it would protect my hair from the heat. What do you use on your hair before blow drying it that isn't too $$$.

I use argan oil. I've tried a zillion products. This is the one I keep coming back to.

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil. A bottle of it, which will last me several months, is about $8.

Aveda Brilliance. The pump, not the spray. (They say it's the same but I swear it's not!)
28 bucks for a tiny bottle but it lasts about 8 weeks and it's my "if I was stranded on a desert island" product!
I use before and after blow drying. Before for protection and taking away frizz...after for shine.

A lot of people like the argon oil stuff. I found it weighed my hair down, and didn't give me the shine Brilliance gives me. But u might try that first since it's cheap...it might work for you.

I have long, very thick hair prone to dryness.

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. One $18 bottle lasts a year +. (Thick, curly hair)

OP, do you want stick-straight shine. or bouncy volume?

NP- I used to have straight hair, now very wavy (long and thick) and dry and gets very 'big' when I dry it. Any advice for the best product for that kind of hair? Would like it to be smooth and straight (again).

First poster. Argan oil. Seriously. This is my hair type exactly and argan oil makes it smooth and straight. You will need to practice to see what amount of oil you need. A little goes a long way.

This stuff is great for thick hair and would be my recommendation too!

Flat iron

Thanks PP. I'll pull the flat iron back out.

You should still use a product before you blow dry, especially if you are going to pull the flat iron out afterwards. All of that heat can damage your hair.

Me too....pp who suggested brilliance by Aveda. It brings back my youthful hair!

It's a 10 leave in product. It makes my coarse hair smooth and soft and minimizes frizz and protects from heat. My salon uses it I think but I found a bottle of the spray at Target for like $15. It smells good too!

Aveda smoothing fluid - the creamy kind- in the light blue pump bottle.

I have very long, thick hair and have tried drug store products and it's not the same. I finish with a few drops of the silicone feeling shine stuff from the same Aveda collection.

I also use It's a 10. My hair is fine textured, so I just spray a couple of squirts into my hand and then distribute this onto my hair. It is a great product for me. I do sometimes use Argan Oil, but I don't put this on my wet hair. I tend to use a tiny amount of the oil on my hair after bliow drying if I find my hair is a little staticky or frizzy.
