Question about a recruited athelete and do they ever not get in ED?

Anonymous
Do you think its a very small percentage of committed athletes who end up NOT getting in ED? If they had a positive pre read? My D is a recruited athlete, has a good solid academic record, no official grades for senior year yet but for her mid semester grades she got her first C+ ever (does not go on her record) but college saw it. Could that enough to defer her even though she has the coaches support? She did have a good pre read and that is why the coach verbally committed her. This is a good NESCAQ school. If anyone knows, would love your take. Thanks, think my nerves are getting the best of me!

Why did the college see her midsemester grades?

Because they asked, it is par for the course for that particular school they want to see senior grades of some sort

I think it's pretty small although one of my DCs friends had a verbal offer from a NESCAC rescinded (before the ED date) but that may have been sport related rather than academic. I doubt one C+ would do it.

Phew. Thank you, we also know someone who had an offer rescinded but it was 100% sports related. I know my D was one of the top 3 recruits as per the coach and he offered her a spot early in the summer. Then got a thumbs up from admissions so we are hopeful they are looking her overall record and not her one weakness (it is a college level course) and hopefully they will give her credit for challenging herself over getting an easy A in a lesser course. I guess its just the nerves of an anxious parent talking!

Parent of two recruited athletes here. If you are more nervous than your D about this situation, then you need to take a step back and realize it is her problem, not yours. If that is not the case, then it is time for you and the D to have a big meeting. Playing a sport is a big commitment at a tough academic school. If your D is showing signs of apathy, then it is a far better time to re-evaluate the college/sport choice than to get the acceptance, go to first semester and be miserable with the school/sport and want to transfer. It is my experience that recruited athletes often have buyer's remorse as they see classmates getting into schools where there is no coach/team involved. Make sure that communication lines are open. You will be glad that you did.

I have 2 kids who were recruited and 1 more to go next year. Though my husband who also played a college sport was the one who spearheaded both their experiences, I will say I still learned quite a bit. If they have a coach behind them 100%chances are nearly 100% they will get in unless there is a major slip up in grades (not one C+ but many or worse) or a serious behavioral infraction....if the coach is not totally behind them and she is not one of their number one recruits then there might be more doubt but still we were told 90% of recruited athletes get in ED, so sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Was she do you know one of their top recruits? That has a big impact on how things go down in the admissions office.
To the pp show me a parent NOT emotionally invested in their kids journey. Please.....you sound like a parent should not be nervous of if they are something is wrong. That is ridiculous. Every parent is affected by this journey and it is a journey, you see your kid working hard for four year towards one goal..and you better believe we get nervous! I didn't read anywhere that her D was apathetic...not sure where you got that, it sounds like she is nervous and that is so par for the course.
OP These things really do have a way of working themselves out. Best of luck.....sounds like it will all be just fine.

So OP what's the update? Seems like most ED decisions are out now.
