Will voting out the school board make the school calendar sane again?

Do you have a job? If I have to explain this to you, you clearly do not have younger children and work full time.

Have you made the mistake of confusing school with child care?

School is child care. Teachers make this mistake all the time.

I wouldn't bother with the last week if its a camp you like and want to attend.

4 day weeks are unbearable- even for HS students. This isn't a childcare issue
5 days for Memorial Day is excessive
Spring break is too long
Random days in February and March are an irritant.

Enough!!! Let's get back to academics

You’re wrong on all points. Winter break isn’t too long - the majority of parents and staff wanted to keep it 2 weeks.

MS and HS love the 4 day weeks - gives them a chance to sleep and catch up on work and not be so overwhelmed.

Memorial Day usually isn’t 5 days - as PP said, it’s an anomaly this year.

Spring Break is always a week - it’s not “too long.” It’s just right.

Random days in February and March? There’s only one day in February - President’s Day and one day in March - Eid.

You are an idiot!

Spring Break is technically a week long but they often bookend it with a TW/SD the following week when it aligns with the end of a quarter. This year Spring Break is followed by a 3 day school week, but in this case it’s Monday and Friday off, so 10 day Spring Break, 3 days of school, 3 day weekend.

They approved this year's school calendar in 2023. If you signed up for camp knowing that school didn't get out until the 17th, that's on you.

We didn’t sign up yet. The camp just announced the dates.

SB now complaining to Reid about the early release Wednesdays (which she did without consulting the Board) and the lack of five-day weeks. All this was done to appease the unions so nothing will probably change

Is there a chance to get rid of those? There was no clear reason given why to keep it AND why to do it in this disruptive way!

I don’t know if that’s true, but most ES teachers don’t like spending Wednesday afternoons in meetings/trainings. I’m a retired teacher substitute and the disjointed schedule is not very popular from what I’m hearing.

Please get rid of the early release Wednesdays. They are idiotic and disruptive! No school November 3 and 4, no school November 11 - will next week be a 5 day week - nope, early release Wednesday.

They’re complaining because they’re accountable to voters and she absolutely isn’t. Keep calling and writing and it will change.

Yep, they are hearing it from people, and they want to be elected in the future, whether to the school board again or something higher. Keep calling and writing, and they'll eventually direct Reid to change it for the future.

There was no point doing it this way this year.. In the middle of the week, two rounds of buses, staff overseeing kids who stay at school - does anyone know the cost of that? Like it's called "early release" but it's way more complex than that and not free to the school system as the name would imply.

They initiated them with six weeks notice in ‘24 they can absolutely be eliminated for ‘26 if people engage with their board members about them.

It will be a five day week just not a five FULL day week.

Elementary teachers need more planning time. They get next to nothing. While school provides day care, teachers still need time to do admin tasks (emails, grading etc). Where do we get that time from?
