K rec soccer cost - $80 Arl vs $200 McLean?!

Anonymous
I know McLean is expensive but still. A mom friend in McLean told me she paid $200 for rec soccer for her son in kindergarten. Is there a particular reason why it's so much more expensive than say Arlington? Tks.

It will mostly be driven by the cost of getting fields, which I believe may be cheaper for ASA due to county subsidies.

Whoa! We're in Fairfax and it costs $80 here, too. Must be more than county involvement going on.

I think Mclean soccer pays to install turf which in other areas of FX the county pays for it.

Ah, that explains it. We're rarely on a turf field in our Fairfax league--mostly grass elementary school fields.

private soccer club vs. soccer sponsored through the county

According to McLean Soccer's website it is $100 for rec soccer for Kindergarten. So your friend is giving you bad info OP, or you are just trying to bash McLean Soccer.

We are on turf a lot in Arlington--but county is much smaller while having high revenue.

The schedule on-line says MYS is $100 for U5 (pre-K) but is $205.50 for U6 to U19. So her friend is correct.

However, here is how MYS spends the registration fees:

Direct program expenses represent 38% of program registration fees and include: financial aid to members and fee discounts to the volunteer AGC's; labor costs for referees and trainers for u5, u7, and coaching programs; VYSA, SFL, all star fees; field fees paid to Fairfax County; credit card processing fees; player uniforms and gear; and registration systems and supplies. The remaining fees are used to cover club common costs including: labor cost for registration, administration and management; field maintenance and equipment; office costs; and the largest component, development of new fields. Since FY 2008, MYS has spent $4.8 million on new field development at Spring Hill Rec Center, Linway Terrace Park, and Lewinsville Park.

My family is heavily involved with MYS and it is a great program. We hope to kick Arlington's butt in their rec tournament they are sponsoring in a couple weeks!

I call BS. No ASA K rec soccer games on turf, not in a million years.

Why are Ks in a soccer league? Why aren't they just playing with their friends?

Yeah, I thought so, too. Never saw a rec game on turf before 11v11 (big kids).

My U7 had practice on turf, although games were on grass. U10 played on turf regularly.
