plastic surgeon to fix uneven ear piercings

Anonymous
My ear piercings are uneven - always have been. Time to get it fixed. Has anyone had one ear hole redone so that it's even with the other one? What is the procedure and aftercare (i.e., how long do I have to refrain from wearing an earring in that ear?). Can anyone recommend a plastic surgeon to do this? Thanks.

How uneven are we talking here? If it is SO uneven to require plastic surgery, just get a new hole and let the other one close up. If the new hole would be so close to the old one that you can't get it redone, then no one notices it but you.

Mine are uneven too but what do you think a PS can do?

OP here - it's pretty noticeable when I wear studs, but it's possible that the new hole would be too close to the other one. That's why I want to consult with a plastic surgeon. After all these years, will the hole really close up on its own? How long does it take?

I have big holes and random strangers used to tell me my earrings were falling out. Ugh. I got "martini" studs that fixed the problem. Would that help?

To answer your question I think any plastic surgeon can fix this. My mom had her ear holes ripped through by a baby and they were fixed easily enough.

That's different, that's like having stitches. They sew it back. I don't think they can do anything about this.

Yes, they can. They close the hole up with a stitch so it won't run into the new hole you make.

Holes close up. But it's not overnight.

Not always true. I've had my ears pierced since I was a little girl. I never wear earrings, haven't for years and years. My holes are still perfectly intact.

Going to the doctor and getting it quickly stitched makes more sense if you want to get re-pierced and go back to wearing earrings anytime soon.

Okay then - I'm assuming that this is something that any decent plastic surgeon can do, right?

I had to have my ears repaired b/c the holes had stretched out and I could no longer wear any earrings.

My dermatologist performed the surgery, it took about 20 minutes per ear, 2 sets of stitches per ear and cost $900.

I had to wait 6 months to get them re-pierced.

and to the previous pp, they do not close up if you have had them pierced and wore earrings for several years. I had a second hole done when I was 16, I stopped wore studs there for about 8-10 yrs, then decided it was tacky. 18 years later the hole is still there and able to accept an earring.

I recently dealt with my own crooked ear piercings. At the advice of a professional piercer, I let the "bad" hole close up over the course of 3 months. Then I went in -- yes, it was a tattoo/piercing shop -- and the piercer spent several minutes assessing my ears (turns out no one's ears match exactly, so it's pretty easy to end up with uneven piercings) and placing the dot for the new hole. The piercing itself was a little more painful than the gun kind, but it is precisely even with my other hole and I am pretty darn thrilled. I wish I had done it years ago. The whole process, including studs, was about $100.

I had this done awhile ago when my son grabbed an earring and tore the hole larger (I could see through it!). It hurt like hell, but my insurance picked up the cost.

Not once they are fully healed.
