| I just got my first dutch oven pot - enameled cast iron - and I am looking for some recipes to break it in. I would like recipes that should be specifically made in a dutch oven. Any tried and true favorites? Thanks in advance! |
| I make all of my soups in a Dutch oven. I am am going to make a skinny version of New England clam chowder today. |

I love using mine for braising, specifically pot roast and pork shoulder. This recipe for slow-roasted pork shoulder is amazing: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/582610#4271503
Just make sure that if your Dutch oven has a lid with a plastic knob that you don't put that in the oven...you can cover the pot with foil instead. |
| Or, more accurately, check the temp rating of the plastic knob. Ours is ok up to 450, and most of the time we only have the oven at 300 or 350. |
Le Creuset's are rated only up to 375. So if you want to make something like no-knead bread, you're out of luck. But there are stainless steel replacement knobs available on Amazon. |
| Ina Garten's Vodka Cream Sauce - delicious! |

This is the last thing I made in mine:

| Check out Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook. Plenty of Dutch oven recipes in there. |
| Applesauce |
| There aren't any recipes that specifically require a Dutch oven. |
|
This one requires a Dutch oven - the camping variety where you put coals on top too.

| maybe a pot roast surrounded by veggies and potatoes? |
Or better still. If you have a plastic knob, unscrew it and take it and the screw to the home improvement store and look for a metal cabinet knob that you like. Check the screw that comes with the knob to make sure that when screwed in, it leaves about the same length of screw as the original. Sometimes you're lucky and the knob can use the original screw. If not, you can go to the aisle with screws and find one that both fits the knob and is the right length. |
| OP here. Thank you all for the tips and ideas. My pot has a metal knob so the whole thing is oven safe to 500 degrees. I'm thinking a pot roast might be a good way to start! |
