I'll be starting to apply for a new job sooner rather than later, and the discussion on whether or not to wear hose got me thinking... HOw tall is "too tall" for interviews? I'm 5'10 in bare feet, and when I interviewed for the job I have now I went somewhat out of my way to find non-frumpy shoes with a kitten heel. However, that was a WHILE ago now, when kitten heels were fairly common. Now is seems like dress shoes are either flats, casual wedges, or 3"+ in height.
So... in a random poll, what do you think? Would wearing a plain black pump that put me over six feet tall be OK? Should I start now to try to find a shorter pump, with say a 1"-1.5" heel? Should I go with flats and a pants suit instead of skirt and heels? Does it really even matter in the long run? ![]() |
Nope. I go as low as I can go (ballet flats, usually). |
I'm 5'10 and I usually where 2.5" heels. Low heels, meaning 3" or less, or flats should be fine. The only thing that really matters is that you feel and look confident. |
I am 5'10 also and look ridiculous in flats. I would wear a 2 inch heel. |
I'm 5'10" and I always wore regular heels (about 2-2.5") to interviews. Nothing wrong with being tall and owning it. |
I'm 6'1" in bare feet and it had never occurred to me that there was a height that was "too tall for interviews." I think you should wear what makes you comfortable and confident. I personally would never wear a skirt and heels to an interview; but if that works for you, wear the clothes that will make you feel competent and allow you to answer the interview questions with aplomb. |
Studies show that on average taller people make more money. I think there is no such thing as too tall as long as you are confident.
I'm 5'10" and very often wear a 3inch heel. For an interview I've always wore high heels. I love towering over the interviewer. It automatically puts you at a evolutionary advantage. |
+1. own it. |
I would go with a conservative heel- 2 to 2.5 inches. You can still find them.
I think too high -- 3.5 or more -- would be too much for almost anyone in a job interview situation. |
I don't go over 3". I would definitely not wear flats with a skirt. That would look ridiculous. |
What would a 5"2 ft person wear? |
I was going to say this. But if you are uncomfortable, you're not going to be confident. Look into flats with pointed toes. It's a more polished look than a ballet flat. |
I'm 5'10" and I normally wear a 3 inch heel at work, including for interviews. I agree with all of the PP's who say you have to own it. |
+1 I wear low or moderate heels just to be professional/conservative, but you definitely don't need flats and I wouldn't wear wedges. |
