Hi all,
Ok, first of all, things are mostly fine... I think. My son's at Greenbelt, and some of his teachers use Edmodo and some do not for assignments, and they use them to varying degrees. Hence, I am having a bit of a time helping my budding proto-adolescent learn to keep track of assignments and not get buried. He mostly does this on his own (thank God), but then occasionally there's a flurry of late work, last minute work, etc. Oh...he also goes back and forth between his dad's house and mine, so that's an extra wrinkle in keeping track of things. If anybody has any advice or input they want to share, I'm all ears, but here's what I'm trying so far. I'm re-instituting the nightly backpack check for a while, and I told him to actually write down ON PAPER what his homework is daily..including longer-term assignments. Then we can check it against Edmodo, and break out longer assignments into chunks. Naturally, he wants my help, but also doesn't want my help. Thoughts? Mostly just want ot make sure he learns to manage his time without feelings of complete dread and panic. |
| You know I have noticed my own child miss H.W. She had not done this before when it was written by teacher on the board and written by her in agenda book. And my child tells me that some of the due dates on Edmodo are different from the actual due dates. I think there is some confusion and missing assignments posted. I am at a loss too. I think there is too much posting/dates on edmodo. Maybe we need to get them to put it in their agenda book also. I do not know. I thought edmodo was going to be great. |
| Thanks for replying, PP. Yeah, I think the back-up write everything on paper thing is the way to go. Also, we made a new rule about always doing the homework on a word doc saved to the desktop, and THEN cutting and pasting it into Edmodo to turn it in. The kids (nor their parents) can't look at what they did once they hit the submit button. |
