Things to do in miami

I'll be going to Miami when my DD will be 20 months. What are some family-friendly places to stay and things to do? I have never been before and we'll be there 5 days in late february.

We went when our first was the same age, and playing in the pool and digging on the beach were plenty for her. We also went for a long walk on Lincoln Rd every day. There is a nice children's museum, if it rains, and there's a very cool water park and nice playground in South Beach called Flamingo Park that we discovered more recently.

Miami Seaquarium http://www.miamiseaquarium.com/ is a great place to visit. Also Jungle Island ( used to be called Parrot Jungle when I was a kid). http://www.jungleisland.com/

Miami zoo is amazing but your child may be too young to get it all- but at least parts of it- the MIA zoo puts DC zoo to shame..

As a related question, are there any public sand beaches close to Miami's financial district? We would prefer to not travel over to Miami Beach as we were hoping to not rent a car. Thanks.
