Anniversary dinner for two furloughed feds?

Anonymous
Our 9th anniversary is next week and we'd normally go to Trummer's in Clifton (we live in Springfield), but when we add in the cost of a babysitter, we think that will cost more than is prudent at this point. Any ideas for some place nice reasonably close (will ask my sister to watch the kids) that can accommodate a vegetarian and isn't too pricey?

Thanks!

A lot of ethnic restaurants have good vegetarian options and aren't too pricey. I read a nice review of Curry Mantra the other day - do you like Indian food?

I'd get a picnic basket and go down to the capitol. Also, bring a steaming pile of shit in a bag and a lighter and leave it on fire outside Boehner's office.

Is there anything sentimental for you like where you went on your first date or a cheesy chain that you secretly love?

Or take advantage of the furlough food specials!

Oh, good idea! I would probably go to Olive Garden and have a blast. It's good enough for Tom Sietsema. Happy anniversary, OP!

You could go to Rustico in Alexandria and stop and get cupcakes afterward at Buzz. Or go to Chef Geoff's in Tysons - it has tablecloths. Or Jackson 20 or somewhere else in Old Town, and walk down to the waterfront after.

Do you have childcare you're still obligated to pay for?

If so, I think you can often get the same quality food for cheaper at lunch, plus save the cost of the babysitter.

Yes! Go to Restaurant Eve or the Majestic for the lunch special!

I like the Capitol picnic/visit to Boehner's office option.
