I accounted for the possibility that this was a joke by saying "if this is really what you think" - seriously, this attitude has been voiced here many times, so even if the tattoo seemed made up, the rest might very well have been serious. |
OMG let this thread die already. |
Well, I've never had a problem with my tonsils and I'm very glad my parents didn't remove them. And I had the two wisdom teeth that were problematic removed, have the other two and they've never given me any problems. Even the trend of removing healthy wisdom teeth is changing! And, the child is older when that happens and can participate in the decision. |

Same here. Still have my tonsils, and my wisdom teeth were taken out 20 years ago because the x-ray showed that they were growing in the wrong direction and would have ruined the alignment of my teeth. No way would I have wanted to have tonsils and wt removed prophylactically. Who does that? I don't believe either is recommended. Of course it's always easy to say you wish something had been removed when it does turn out to cause you trouble. My mom had a critical situation with her appendix a few years ago, which could have been life-threatening - yet nobody suggests getting appendices removed on everybody. Hey, it's just a quick laparoscopy! |
The medical benefits far exceed the miniscule risk |

Have any of the anti-circ moms ever watched a circ? |
You do not understand the issues involved if you think this would make a difference. |
Well, if it is so harmful, dangerous and awful, you would think the actual procedure would be horrible. Yet, it isn't. Hmmmm. |
OP, I do not care AND no one else has a right to dictate what you do. Sure, they can spout their opinions (DCUMers are great at that), but they have no say and they will not be inspecting your baby's part to see if you did what they deem as right. I do not believe in not circumcising, BUT I would not ever tell anyone else what they should do. Do what you want. |
Yes, in subsaharan Africa. Or the slums of Mumbai. |
Are you kidding me? It was watching a circ that swayed my husband AGAINST doing it. It is awful looking! |
Sigh. This doesn't happen in Europe. EVER. So either boys in the US are incapable of washing themselves whereas elsewhere they manage to master it, or it is being treated differently here. That is that doctors are quick to jump to surgical options. I grew up in Europe and had two brothers. I NEVER heard of anyone having an infection EVER. I certainly never heard of anyone having a tween circumcision. I did have a relative have a medical circumcision at around 7 or 8, I think. This was necessary because of a tight foreskin (an unusual condition that is a medical reason for a circumcision), not because of infections. |
