Arlington Travel Tryouts

It does seem that next year’s Girls’ U12 teams are still heavily 2015 at the top. If the system had developed under SY that would not be the case. The Pre-Academy teams have maybe 5-6 2014 girls dropping down (all on Pre-A or Red before), and then the Red team is ALL 2015 (existing Pre-A2 and existing Red) except the goalie. Then any 2014 Red, White or Blue team girls that did not make Pre-Academy were put on next year’s U12 White.

I have the feeling it’s not going to matter as much as you think it will for next year. Red/White, Blue/Black will probably operate in a fashion of playing in the same division or against similar level opponents, to figure out what the teams should look like at U13.

That’s a good point. If they were still at U11, that would especially be true bc the current 2015/U11G Red and White are playing in the same division this spring. However the current 2014/U12 Red is playing up and playing 11v11 this year. If they do the same thing next year, they’re actually going to have an odd situation where the 2014 Red girls will have played 11v11 and then moved down to 9v9.

Yea tell me about... my sons whole red team was moved down to white but for 1 kid that made red and from what i hear the red team is all 2015s dropping down.... sucks

We’re seeing opposite for the girls. Most 2015 red girls are staying on U12 Red. Many made special deals with the coaches before travel tryouts bc they thought they’d get moved up to pre-academy.

special deals to stay... in the same place?
doesn't sound so... special?

Does it even occur to some of you that some families don't want their kids on the higher teams? It's baffling to me what blinders some people have. This idea that everyone is constantly gunning for more, more, more. Some families don't want the additional travel and practices or stress level.

This is hilarious, you are clearly referencing someone you know.

do people still play arlington soccer with the hopes of getting recruited to D1 soccer programs?

They seem like they will have 3 teams playing up at 11v11 next year for that age group so maybe that will be white as the third which could make sense if most of the team has that extra year in general as well as some having 11v11 already.

I would anticipate U12 PA2 and U12 Red playing 11v11 and U12 White playing 9v9.

Does the VPSL that the PA1 U12 team plays in play 9v9 or 11v11? It’s U12, so they don’t play up, but it seems weird that PA1 would play 9v9 and then PA2 and Red would play 11v11.

And yes, also weird that some 2014Red players won’t play 11v11 after having played it last year.

I would imagine odds are low that a waitlisted player gets picked now.

Not all teams are filled yet.

not looking great...there are a couple of other clubs nearby still looking to fill out 3rd and 4th teams. If your player really wants to play travel it might be worth looking into

Is it like this every year for try outs or is this a bigger issue than usual with the age group change? My kid tried out as an external player and ended up accepting our offer to stay w our current club. thankfully we saw the writing on the wall and didn’t wait. We were hoping for a new experience next fall and had very realistic expectations about where they might fit so this was a bummer. If it’s like this every year for try outs, I think we would hesitate to come back and try again. Our club had some issues getting kids right-fit for teams and had to puzzle things out with the age changes too, but this certainly was not what I was expecting from such a big org. N00b over here I guess.

For my understanding, have most tryouts already been completed? Which teams are still accepting players? Any references would be appreciated.

From what I’ve seen SYC and McLean have posted they are still looking for kids for the younger age groups. Check their instagrams. I’m sure there are others as well that’s just the ones I saw
