Do parents choose Latin/BASIS over Deal/J-R?

Anonymous
PS BASIS workload is not for all kids. Sixth grade and hours of homework, stress My sixth grade kid is 95th percentile plus on many tests, thriving in an advanced program in a different school system, but would not thrive at BASIS.

Maybe Your odds at a Latin are ten percent. Not all parents want Basis so they go through more on the waitlist. Basis made 93 offers by October. The waitlist length on results day was 290. Latin 2nd st made 9 offers and had 500 on the waitlist. Latin cooper made 16 offers and had 436 on the waitlist. Definitely very different odds.

I cannot imagine picking Deal over Latin. I also cannot imagine picking BASIS over Deal.

Ok, that sounds like your preference? But not everyone's. At BASIS and my child has some friends who live in the Deal zone, so clearly some people prefer it.

NP sure but it’s not alot at all. The data is all there to see.

Just looked at the data.

BASIS draws heavily from Capitol Hill but also has lots of students from around DC including many in bounds for Deal.

So, there do seem to be plenty of parents picking BASIS over Deal.

It's almost like families try to choose the school that would fit their particular kid the best. Shocking.

NP. How would you know anything if you haven't looked at the data?

Next.

Because someone posted the data in a recent thread. If PP just looked at the data then why not post the link???

If your kid is a black male, even if testing in upper 90 percentiles in Math and ELA, don’t bother sending him to school period. These schools only care about UMC white and low SES blacks. If you don’t fall into either category, you are a non-entity and the system sees you as nothing but garbage. This is true from Latin, Deal, Basis, Dunbar…even Banneker. There is no hope for them. Period.

Agree is large part, but can you say more?

NP. Why do you agree? The high-scoring UMC Black boys I know from DCPS high schools are headed to T20s. The kids I know are admittedly a small sample, but more than enough to prove that the PP’s “abandon all hope” position is hyperbolic and absurd.

NP. Person just laid you bare with basic logic. Have the decency to just go away and lick your wounds. Your attempt to make yourself look less foolish is cringe. You asked for the link to the data and now we're to believe you reviewed it previously? Was that when you were visiting your super hot boyfriend in Canada?

You sound totally unhinged. You do realize that multiple people could be responding.
